Today we’d like to introduce you to Katelyn Grady
Hi Katelyn, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Since I discovered it my senior year of high school in the Philadelphia area (21 years), I’ve been practicing yoga. I’ve been teaching for around 10. I met Jenny Miller in 2010, and we began to scheme opening a yoga studio, which we finally accomplished in 2013. In 2016 the studio expanded and in 2019, we opened a gym for mindful fitness, fitness based on the yoga philosophy of life and the nervous system.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been pretty smooth and intuitive until COVID. 2020 has brought on some struggles. As individuals struggle with a difficult year and the pandemic, we’ve had our first real staff issues, and of course, there was the shutdown and now social distancing, which have made our business model a struggle. We are working to continue to pivot.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I love to teach all of the movement practices. I teach yoga, pilates, and fitness. I’m passionate about empowering students with the principles they need to make self-guided decisions about their movement based on their overall wellness. I’m really proud of the design of both of our brick and mortars. Designing the spaces felt like a sacred art project that I get to now spend my time “working” in. I think that the way that BE attempts to hold space for folks to discover themselves is really special.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I think it’s been important to not take ourselves too seriously while taking the work that we do seriously.
