Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Smith.
Jordan, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born in Tampa and raised in Chicago, eventually moving back in high school. Working in the hospitality industry helped me fall in love with live event production and promotion. An artist at heart, I’ve been taking dance classes since I was five years old and have studied guitar, violin, and music theory.
I graduated from the University of South Florida with a degree in public relations, and have lived and worked all over the country and state. I am so grateful to be living in Tampa again, where most of my family is also located. No one accomplishes anything substantial on their own, and their support means everything to me.
Some may know me through my “Tiny Wildflower” stage persona, as I have also worked as a professional entertainer for almost a decade now. Starting out by hula hooping at music festivals, I eventually joined a performance troupe which led to paid gigs. I’ve gone on to learn fire dancing and fire eating, plus belly dancing and aerial arts.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Is anyone’s road easy? For me, trying to do so many different things has taught me humility and practicality. Several years ago, I discovered the mantra, “You can do anything, but not everything.” Although I still try sometimes! Healthy eating, yoga, and meditation help me find balance with a busy lifestyle.
Major life events that changed my direction include my mom’s battle with cancer and the loss of my best friend. Fortunately for our family, my mom overcame a stage four diagnosis and is still cancer-free. A couple of years after my mom went into remission, my friend Danielle passed away unexpectedly.
I wouldn’t wish the pain and confusion of losing a friend so young on anyone, but the experience did shape me into the person I am today and still becoming. Her spirit lives on, especially through art. She was an artist too. I have worked hard to learn how to channel my grief into growth.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Today you’ll find me in-house at Alfonso Architects, an award-winning design firm and recognized leader in innovation. I moonlight at Amalie Arena, where we create world-class experiences that impact our community. I also promote concerts for No Clubs and help independent artists and non-profit organizations with PR and marketing.
As Tiny Wildflower, I have performed across the country, and at local venues such as the Straz Center, Raymond James Stadium, and the Don Cesar. I also teach workshops and host full moon fire “jams”.
I’m passionate about connections and developing relationships. Collaborating with other people is what I enjoy most, that’s where the real magic happens. My work revolves around public relations, media, and events. I’m enthusiastic and ruthless for results, but at the same time, building a reputation for calm demeanor. One company I worked with asked me to lead weekly meditation sessions for the entire team!
Every performance of my own, where I have the opportunity to truly connect with an audience is a blessing, for which I am grateful. And every sold-out concert or event by others that I am able to contribute to brings me the deepest joy. I love seeing my colleagues and clients win.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
As Coach Bruce Arians said, “No risk it, no biscuit.” If you are doing your best and have all the right pieces in play, I believe risk-taking can provide a greater reward. If luck is simply what happens when preparation meets opportunity, the risks we take in life are what can lead us there.
