Community Highlights: Meet Rochelle Brown of Addicted to Skin the Beauty & Aesthetics Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rochelle Brown

Hi Rochelle , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hi everyone, my name is Rochelle Brown I am a Beautypreneur and medical professional. I am a multi-state licensed Clinical Aesthetician and owner of Addicted to Skin the Beauty & Aesthetics Studio. Everyone always asks what led me to this career path and I actually started off part time in a department store in the malls, I worked for a cosmetics line. While healthcare is my core I have always loved everything about beauty. While working as a makeup artist inquiries started to increase specifically about skin. I would have these little sweet older women come in asking what type of makeup could they purchase to cover their wrinkles. Of course there’s no such thing… In fact as a tip makeup can make fine lines and wrinkles more prominent. Most department stores offer skincare but they just weren’t the functional ingredients these women needed, this prompted me to research more and find those answers. I researched more into Dermatology, Plastic surgery treatments and procedures then I discovered what an Aesthetician was which I like to think of as the liaison between the two. I was hooked, Addicted one may say. From there I started my Paramedical Aesthetics training at a Allied Health Professional school that offered additional medical & science based Aesthetic training. This was just about ten years ago, I have since had amazing opportunities to collaborate with several very amazing Physicians in the aesthetics industry then moving on to opening my own practice.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Absolutely not obstacle free. Being a woman of color, when originally starting in this industry the diversity of Aesthetic providers and treatments provided to minorities generally was very few and far between. I think that in the beginning that was a challenge I had to overcome, to become proof that I was valuable on the employee end as well as knowledgeable and diligent enough to find products and treatments to accommodate clients of all skin types across the board. With tenacity, time and experience those things came. Today I would say, there are new obstacles always developing however in all honesty the quote dubbed by Marc Anthony and many others “If you do what you love, you won’t work a day in your life” is so true. I absolutely love my career & enhancing the lives of those around me so all obstacles are welcomed and totally worth it!

How do you define success?
Success is a feeling, in the same way that wealth is a mindset. I don’t feel I have reached any successful measure with titles, positions or accomplishments. I am successful when I have brought value to each and every person that I’ve encountered.
