Meet Raven Davis of Signed by Ray LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Raven Davis.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I define myself as an artist. I’ve been drawing, painting, and creating things for a very long time, but it took me a while to find my niche. Around the time I decided I needed to change my career path, I was working in student affairs at a local university. I was unsure what I wanted to do next, but I had a Nail Technician who would always tell me how much she loved my art and how it could be an amazing gateway to nails. While I did (and still do) love nails, I had so many insecurities about leaving a career I worked so hard to get into. I kept asking myself and my close friends, “what are people going to say if I say, ‘forget those degrees, I’m just going to do nails now’?” But the conversation kept coming up in different situations, and finally, I acknowledged that I was unhappy with what I was doing. I started nail school about two months after that. I knew I had to give myself a fair shot at this. And well, here we are three and half years later… owning a nail business.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road was definitely not smooth! The art and design part of doing nails came easy to me because of my experience with so many different mediums. But the foundation was a different story! My foundation was horrible, my nails were lumpy and uneven, and sometimes they would fall off the next day. All of the things you hear about horrible nail salons and technicians, that was me. It took a lot of dedication and tears to get where I am now.

We’ve been impressed with Signed by Ray LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Signed by Ray LLC (SBR), is a small business primarily focusing on nail health and beauty. We specialize in manicures, pedicures, and acrylic nail enhancements. I think SBR clients would say I am known for being personal and passionate about what I do. It is important to me that I take the time to get to know ALL of SBR’s clients. As far as the work itself, every single nail is a piece of art and I get to share that with the world, so I am very particular sometimes. The thing I am most proud about is that SBR exists. Three years ago, I was embarrassed at the thought that I would leave my career in student affairs to pursue a career in the beauty industry. And now I can say that I am a business owner, doing something that I love to do every day. If you would have told me that I would be, I would have probably laughed at you. Now I laugh at myself for being embarrassed about finding my happiness. While I am the face of SBR, it is important for me that people know it is a family business. My partner and our eight year old daughter play a very important role in the company, and it would be impossible to do any of this without them.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
