Today we’d like to introduce you to Ronsha Brown.
Rona Brown is the founder and owner of Nurse Practitioners of Florida, LLC. She is an Adult Nurse Practitioner who specializes in gastroenterology and women’s health. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Florida A & M University in Tallahassee, then earned her Master of Science degree at South University. She holds a national certification with the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. As family and friends lovingly call her, Shay has devoted more than 17 years to outstanding patient care within her community. Born and raised in south St. Petersburg, Ms. Brown has always expressed her great love for the city and the new developments happening in the surrounding areas. As a young child, her dream has always been to own medical practice. She stepped out on faith and left corporate healthcare in 2018 to pursue her dream. Ms. Brown’s professional medical career began quickly after graduating from college at FAMU. Shortly thereafter, she joined St. Anthony’s Hospital, where she spent more than ten years providing patient care with BayCare — one of the leading not-for-profit care systems that connect individuals and families to a wide range of services throughout the state of Florida. While there, she served as an RN and assistant Nurse Manager within the hospital’s medical-surgical unit. At the same time, she served for four years as a nurse practitioner rape examiner with the Suncoast Rape Center in Pinellas County. She then expanded her medical career to specialize in gastroenterology with Gastro of Florida for the next three years managing inflammable bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome, chronic constipation, GERD, cirrhosis, and pancreatitis.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The transition has not been smooth at all. The biggest struggle is with the COVID pandemic. We had to go from seeing patients in person in the clinic to telehealth. This hindered our physical examinations. However, we made the best of it, considering the circumstances. The other challenge was trying to gain contracts from the biggest commercial insurances.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Nurse Practitioners of Florida?
Nurse Practitioners of Florida has an unwavering commitment to providing you with high-quality and cost-effective medical care. We also strive to enhance the patient experience by making you feel welcomed, treating everyone with respect and dignity, and by offering a wide array of services so that you can have several of your care needs to be attended to in one location. Whether you need wellness examinations, chronic disease management, laboratory testing, or a minor acute illness treated, we’re here to help you. We’ll also discuss ways in which you can implement healthy lifestyle habits to maximize your wellbeing and lower the risk of future health issues. At Nurse Practitioners of Florida, every single one of our providers is fully committed to treating our patients like family. Our north is always the question: how would we like our loved ones to be treated? In addition to being highly accomplished and skilled in many different areas of healthcare, we want everyone to feel welcomed and truly cared for.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was the type of kid that wanted to go to school and learn. Education was always of importance to me. I was a social bunny and enjoyed being around people. I was also very family-oriented.
