Rising Stars: Meet Patricia Cannon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Patricia Cannon.

Hi Patricia, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started shooting births for friends after I had learned how to use my camera properly in 2010, then I started my photography business in 2011. I loved birth because of how empowering it was. Women are amazing, and birth is just one proof we have of that. After a few yrs of shooting births (and other things like family, maternity, and newborn), I thought I would shoot a boudoir marathon… I FREAKING LOVED IT! It also turned out I was naturally pretty good at it. I started studying boudoir more and decided to specialize in it five years ago. I love empowering women and showing them how beautiful they are. Boudoir is all I shoot now and it feeds my soul. Society does a pretty damn good job of making women hate their bodies, and my job is to help them see what others see. What their significant other sees, what their BFF sees. I’ve had Sweet Plum Boudoir studio in Tampa for five years.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Shooting births was hard with twin little ones at home that hated not knowing when I would be home from a session. So, I knew boudoir was the way for me to have the same satisfaction as birth but with a more predictable schedule, but stepping away from other types of jobs is hard and scary. It has been a lot of hard work getting all areas of my business running smoothly, but I finally feel like I have a pretty good handle on it.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a boudoir photographer. I only shoot women and couples. My business is known for how amazing women feel after their day of pampering. I’m so proud of how much of an impact I can make on women and their feelings about themselves.
