Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Middlebrook.
Hi Morgan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started acting in high school, at Chamberlain Senior High, in theatre. I was mainly doing lead and supporting roles during my time and was having a ton of fun. After high school, I briefly turned my attention in College towards music engineering, aiming for a BA in Recording Arts, but the universe had other plans when the recession hit in 2008-09 and put an end to that. It ended up being a blessing in disguise as it caused me to remember what else I was passionate about in life artistically, which was acting. This time instead of theatre, I set my sights on Film & TV, knowing full well that I would return to my original love of the stage down the road. Throughout the next decade, I spent diving into the industry, eventually obtaining several agents & agencies, learning the do’s & don’ts, gaining on-set experience, working with directors and behind the camera departments, but more importantly, learning more about myself in the process.
And learning more about yourself, in my opinion, is one of if not the best quality any actor can do to become the best version of yourself to reach your full potential in whatever may be your passion in life. Moving ahead, I look forward to growing far more as an artist, learning more about my craft, about myself, and being a willful encouraging participant in the betterment of our world and the people and their stories within it.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
In the beginning, it hadn’t been a smooth road, quite rocky in fact. My path was filled with self-doubt, self-loathing, extreme cases of imposter syndrome, and constant questioning of whether or not I should give up and find a “real job.” Down the road, I understood that the only people at the time that could lift me up and encourage me were other artists like myself. Others who were also passionately pursuing their careers with no promises of “success” in the future because only they could understand what I was going through.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m an actor who listens, who specializes in on-camera acting and possibly known, if anything, for a continuous drive and determination, & for my passions and values. I have been in the dark, and through sheer will and refusal for my life to be dictated for me, I crawled out of that darkness and towards an even brighter future with my friends and peers helping me along the way. I’m proud of going from the lowest of the low, to finally loving who I am, to loving what makes me unique, and the potential of who I can become.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I’m still looking for a mentor myself, but I would say the best way to find a mentor is to start off by being a jack of all trades, meeting many teachers, then finding that one that pushes you in becoming a master. You will know. You’ll feel it inside. You will know who truly speaks to you, who understands you. Trust your gut and go with it. Meet as many people and gain as many new experiences as you can, it’ll only better you. You will build up a library in your head, all of which you can reference back to at any time.
