Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexandria Rodriguez.
Hi Alexandria, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started this business straight out of high school. I had this friend who owned her own business, a nail salon, and I was doing most of the things I do with my business now. I was managing her socials, curating content, and helping in the salon with scheduling and answering clients, all as a volunteer. I really enjoyed the work, but even with the encouragement of my close family and friends, I wasn’t sure if I could manage an entire business. Slowly, I started freelancing with one or two other businesses, just trying to figure out what I actually wanted to do while saving up for college. I started learning more skills in the following months, like how to create websites and the intricacies of social media. It wasn’t until May of last year that I launched the official business, Alexandria VA Online. Since then, I’ve worked with some of the most amazing women I’ve ever met. The things I’ve learned in this short time are priceless.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Definitely not. I started the business during my high school finals, right before my first semester of college. It’s kind of been non-stop since then, with me being a full-time honors college student trying to adjust, having an on-campus job, and juggling extracurriculars and my personal life. Finding the balance between work and play is something that I really tried to do this past year. It isn’t an easy thing to accomplish, but it is rewarding. Outside of the business, I try my best to use social media to educate others and help them succeed. I push out information regarding internships, scholarships, college, and life in general when I can. Helping others and leading by example is something that really keeps me motivated.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Alexandria VA Online offers virtual assistance and social media management to women-owned businesses. I specialize in Instagram and TikTok growth but also work on Facebook, LinkedIn, and more. As for my services, we can break them down into three categories. I offer content creation, social media management, and general administrative assistance. My goal is to support businesses where they need it by allowing business owners to have more time to do what they are passionate about.
I also run an account and Facebook group called Hillsborough County Business Women (@hcbusinesswomen) which is a local networking group! A mentor of mine who runs the blueprint of this group out in California inspired me to start this group. I am the proudest of the connections I have made. I have had the opportunity to connect with businesses in the beauty, food, and marketing industries. Being so young and being able to create a space where women can thrive and uplift each other is beyond rewarding.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love that our city is so diverse and supportive. We really do form communities and I love seeing each community can mix. As a student, I have not come across someone who isn’t willing to help me better myself.
