We’ve been impressed with Creative Beginnings Doula Services, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
As a doula, I strive to create change in the way birth is viewed. It’s important that birth be given back to the birthing person. I want families to become trusting themselves and their decisions as to what’s right for them. Its viewed as a being a doula is more than just holding babies. It’s about educating families on their rights and choices. I am not there to silence their voices or speak for them, instead stand beside them and make sure their voices are heard. At the end of the day, it’s their bodies and babies. I provide evidence-based information. I don’t place judgment on their decision. I give the information and let them decide.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Commitment, Determination, Caring, Empathetic, Patient, Kind, Respectful.
If you had to start over, what would you have done differently?
If I had to start over, I would have been more patient with the process of figuring exactly what my path was. I would focus more not into just my passion but also the financial aspect. I spent money too quickly on things I thought I needed to then later change my mind and go a different route. Yes, I have learned some expensive business and life lessons. I know one day I will look back and realize it has built me into a more strategic and focused business owner. Definitely focus on closing one tab before opening another.
Do you feel like our city is a good place for businesses like yours? If someone was just starting out, would you recommend them starting out here? If not, what can our city do to improve?
I do think it’s a great place. And the good thing about my business is there will always be expectant families and new parents. The more important thing is educating the community and building that trust with them. To let them know that their choices about birth have always been theirs. To empower them to take it back. Yes someone starting could do well here. The key is finding what makes them stand out from others that are in the same profession. Definitely put more focus on their business goals, and focus less on what others are doing. Be in competition with yourself. I have learned what is for you…. is for you.. No one can take that away.
