Today we’d like to introduce you to P.M.Tiger.
Thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to tell us about how the band started.
The band originally started with myself (Jordan) and Josh in Georgia, it was named ‘Kickass Roller Coaster’. We had started writing a few songs together in my bedroom and we played an open mic shortly after they were written with Josh singing and me on the guitar & backup vocals. That went terrible, but it also fueled us to keep doing something with the project. Josh couldn’t help but keep pointing out that the 1 song I sang mostly in was stronger than the rest, and suggested that he be the manager behind me, while I would take over lead vocals. As this thought continued on, he & I found his place to also be the keyboard player in the group; he bought a professional keyboard setup and started learning and we started writing songs together. As the first few tracks were born, I also showed Max, my best friend and now PM bass player, while he was living down in Florida. We decided he should come to stay up in Georgia with me and by the time we were living together the “first album” was being written. In very short order, I was finished with the first 10 tracks and continued on to the compilation of “album 2”. These songs include some of which that have been workshopped onto our upcoming debut album, MY LOVE MUSiC. We needed more members for the group and we started auditioning drummers and guitar players in the Atlanta area, but couldn’t find a fit. We called on John Bruno – a mutual friend of Max and I. He was living down in Florida but seemed like the perfect fit from the toolbox & quickly became the guitar player for the band with a few trips up to Georgia. At this time, I wrote, “albums 3 and 4”, going into what Max & Josh called “trances” as I would write for hours on end. We also started learning a basic 2-3 songs as a fresh group of 4 (Max, Josh, John, and myself), deciding to move on without a drummer for the time being. At this point, we released my old demos, mastered by my old guitar mentor Zack Uidl, which included the first singles “Sometimes”, “IThinkThankYou” and “MotherMoon”. We started plotting a move down to Florida at this point and also started playing some shows as a 4-piece. There were a lot of new things happening at the time, for the band as a whole and personally for myself out of the band, I had just met my girlfriend at the time, Laura. This was also around the time that the “albums 5 and 6”, including over 26 new tracks had been written. The group had also found a drummer in Florida and this was after we had moved into our first band house together, Josh Naaman was our 1st drummer. We chose 3 more songs to workshop and release shortly after this period and that was our EP “Questionable Things”. As we progressed together, we started playing tons of shows and our local following began. But also, as PM life continued, the band continued to change, and that included our parting ways with Josh our drummer, as well as another new band location. At this point, I had also gotten married to my now wife Laura and had also written 30+ new songs that we had added into the PM database for the future. We didn’t let anything slow us down. As we continued to workshop songs and play shows with random local drummers, we were eventually able to find a diamond in the rough. I had just freshly moved out and into my own house with Laura and that is when Adam, our now PM drummer, came into our lives. His addition to the group fueled a new movement stronger than ever before, thrusting our live performances and album progression momentum forward immensely. We now as a group have made what I think to be some pretty cool accomplishments, we have opened as direct support for The Plain White T’s, we have had the opportunity to have our album engineered by Gordon Raphael (The Strokes) and we are going on our first tour to debut our album in February.
I’m beyond stoked to see what our future brings us. I like to think we are very in tune with the universe and have been for some time now, and P.M.Tiger is right where it’s supposed to be.
Can’t wait to show you guys what’s next!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
So far it has not been the smoothest road. As we said before, we have had to workshop multiple drummers before finding our very own Adam. On top of drummer issues, there are two brothers in the band and they are both artists. Let’s just say tensions can get high sometimes. Getting through these moments has made us stronger though!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
P.M.Tiger is a rock band from Clearwater, FL. We bring a unique sound that revives early 2000’s rock, but ads a twist with synthesizers and vibes from other eras too. We are very proud of our album, My Love Music, and we hope that soon, this will be what we are most known for.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
We currently use logic (to record songs), slack (to communicate within the band), google drive (to work asynchronously within the band), we transfer/dropbox (to send files). Without these tools, we would not be as effective and efficient as we are today.
Other bands are also great resources for us. Professional bands show us what we need to do to be successful. Smaller, local bands help us connect with important people in the music community.
Our Guitarist, John, listens to a podcast called “Punk Rock MBA” for tips and tools in the music industry.
