Today we’d like to introduce you to K Sahagian.
Hi K, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
All Speak Easy members met through USF, mostly through their musician’s club which our guitarist Eric founded. Since then we’ve been playing all over Florida and have even traveled outside of the US to Ecuador and Mexico to perform. We’ve self-produced and released three EPs: ‘Living Room’ (2018), ‘Bloom!’ (2019), and ‘Words Don’t Leave Me Now’ (2021). We’ve also released a string of singles including our biggest ‘Grapefruit’ in 2020. Our newest single ‘Ain’t No Need to Wonder’ drops 9/10/21 with a supporting video to follow. It’ll be the first in a series of 4 songs about the musician’s journey to come out the remainder of the year.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are ups and downs being working musicians in the same way there are in any profession, It’s a lot of work to put projects and shows together, especially when a majority of the tasks are being completed by us alone. The lockdowns made it almost impossible to do live, original shows but we found ways to compensate (livestreams, video content, etc.)
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Speak Easy aspires to be a content powerhouse. We obviously make music that we think is unique but we also do tons of video content like skit, short and long form music bits, and livestreams. The video content has become close to the biggest part of our brand. We also have a small Speak Easy store that we’d really like to expand to include all sorts of apparel and higher-fashion type stuff coming soon.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Advice would be to network and make as many friends as you can. Being able to outsource anything makes everything a hundred times easier. We’ve made videographer, photographer, stylist, musician, etc. friends over the years that help us out. Other advice would be (to serious musicians, artists, etc.) that if you’d really like to pursue (whatever creative outlet), treat it like a job. We’re putting our thousand hours in still.
