Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Come.
Hi Brandon, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Well lets start off with my childhood and creativity. As a kid I was always very creative and would find myself taking apart toys and wanting to learn what made them work on the inside and understand the internals of the toy. So I’ve found myself being creative for as long as I can remeber, from making things like sticks and inanimate objects bringing them to life. My mom was a bigger club promoter growing up and that exposed me to alot of music events and seeing people in those environments showed me that you can be as creative as you want and that allows you to be free. Seeing people bring a vision to life that they can share with others.
Now fast forawrd to middle school. My friends start figuring out their crafts and that lead to a few of my close friends starting to make music. Some made bands, some played solo, others wanted to become rappers. Which that eventually leads to me helping with graphic designs for albums, clothing, flyers really what ever came to mind that we had access to as kids haha.
High-school comes along and some of the same friends at this point are starting to get some traction in the underground / local music scenes. One of my close homies reaches out and hits me with “i have a dope song I want to record and release here soon, id like to get some shirts made what can we do?!” So me thinking out side of the box i enrolled into the Media / Productions academy in our school and learned how to use photoshop, how to print vynl and the process of making shirts. So I snuck a file into the lab and printed off a few shirts for the homie and that was the first time I had access to physically making merchandise of any kind. Shout out L-Roy!
Years later the same friend I made the shirts for in high school is hosting shows locally and getting talent from all over the state into our local venue and my brain starts turning. Now im no musical artist but I wanted in on this love and support they all had for each other.
This leads into my first “Clothing Brand”. I started “Bring To Life” to allow artists with ideas to be able to bring them to life. I started making graphics and offering drop shipping Bringing their visions To Life. Eventually I wanted to make my own merchandise to showcase me as a artist. I made a few shirts and was ready to get some good advertisement photos done to promote on socials to get some sells on merch turning and kept getting quotes of $200-$350. So I did some math thinking to myself if I made 3 shirts that could be easily over $1000 on just photos. So I saved and invested into a camera to do my own photos.
Eventually it went from taking photos myself for my merch, to showing up showcases & local events to learn the cameras functions. Which lead to bookings at local venues, advertisement photos & videos for businesses locally. At this point I wasnt making merchandise regularly and started doing more media.
Which leads us to where we are today.
Off Grid Productions was then decided to be established and Bring To Life was essentially rebranded and evolved into what we have today. I came up with the name Off Grid Productions because it was something different simple and had adaptivity with branding. We started off with photos of concerts and of course or own merchandise. But I found myself wanting to do more. So I expanded into car photography, music videos, documentary videos, and personal photo sessions. I’ve started making my merchandise by hand instead of sourcing comapnys who take a file and make the garments to ship, so each piece is handmade and designed.
Some of my personal things achieved are;
I was able to do two nights back to back with some of my favorite underground artists which lead to a booking in Atlanta for our first out of state booking. Shout out Oujia Macc & Sinizter for both opportunities!
Recently we’ve partnered with the Lakland PAL program (Police Athletics League) doing some work with the youth sports teams. Taking play by play footage for them. On top of that me and a new found business partner are in the works of a new music venue in Lakeland to host showcase events for the community!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Its been a rough byt steadily progressive journey. Being self funded and having big goals is never an easy task. From countless hours of research on products, wasting time and money on things to go wrong and not work out, rearranging schedules and being on the go all the time, sacrificing my last couple dollars for gas to make an event i wasnt even sure was going to go as planned, getting scammed for money on products, there’s been a lot. But I wouldnt have changed a thing along this journey. Its made me wiser and taught me along the way.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I feel like what sets us apart from the rest is my drive to want to do more. My specialty is stage photos and events. But im willing to do it all with media. Im intrigued by knowledge and dont belive in gate keeping. Theres always more to learn and to share, thats how we grow as a community. If I havent done it yet, I want to that way my portfolio continues to grow!
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Risk taking has its pros and it has its cons. What it come down to is are you willing to risk something achieve something greater? Theres always risks with everything. The risks your willing to wager will determine the potential outcomes. If you know you cant risk a $1k camera if it goes into some water to secure the job, is that risk worth it to you? Weigh your options, and its okay to say no if the risk is to high for you.
