Today we’d like to introduce you to Chiane “Ane” Reusser.
Chiane “Ane”, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My story really starts with creativity. Growing up, I was always surrounded by photography and videography, and I fell in love with the art of it early on. When social media started producing its own kind of stars and storytellers, I became completely fascinated by that world, but for a long time I only ever thought of it as a hobby.
When the COVID-19 pandemic hit and life slowed down, I started creating content just for the joy of it. That’s when something clicked. I was already studying design, advertising, marketing, and public relations in college, and I had been freelancing on the side throughout my entire academic career. My clients ranged from local boutiques and restaurants to national brands like Amazon Prime, Victoria’s Secret PINK, and Hollister. I was also taking photography classes as electives just to sharpen my craft.
The idea for BruMedia and Marketing actually came out of a design class assignment. We were tasked with building a personal company from scratch, complete with branding, brand guidelines, and social media mockups. I was inspired by my dog Bruno, and I wanted to build something that reflected the same loyalty and heart I felt for him. At the time it was just a fun project, but the name stuck with me. I eventually started using it as an umbrella for all of my freelance work.
After college, I took a management role in the corporate world and genuinely valued that experience, but I kept finding myself coming back to creative work on the side. Eventually I made the decision to go back to school, pursuing my Master of Arts in Social and Emerging Media, both to expand my skill set and to get the strategic foundation to grow BruMedia into something bigger.
I’m now wrapping up my master’s degree and working full-time in the business. We serve clients across a wide range of industries, from restaurants and health and wellness to beauty, real estate, and sports. Sailing has become a real specialty of mine, which reflects my own passion for the sport. As we bring on new team members and new clients, the growth feels like it’s just getting started.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Smooth is probably not the word I would use. Building a company on your own is complex, and a lot of it is genuinely just figuring things out as you go. There’s no single roadmap, and the learning curve is real.
One of the biggest challenges for me was actually a mindset shift. I had spent years treating this work as a hobby, something I loved but didn’t fully believe could be a sustainable career. Making the transition from “this is fun on the side” to “this is my business and I take it seriously” required a real change in how I saw myself and what I was building. That shift doesn’t happen overnight.
What has helped enormously is the community around me. Surrounding myself with other entrepreneurs has been invaluable. Having people to bounce ideas off of, troubleshoot with, and support through the highs and lows makes a significant difference. I’ve also been really fortunate to have clients who have been flexible and patient as the business has grown. That kind of grace goes a long way when you’re still finding your footing.
I think most business owners would tell you that the road is rarely smooth, and I’m no exception. But every challenge has taught me something, and honestly, I wouldn’t trade the messy parts. They’re a big part of what shaped BruMedia into what it is today.
As you know, we’re big fans of BruMedia & Marketing. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
BruMedia and Marketing is a full-service media and marketing agency based in Tampa Bay and St. Petersburg. We offer photography, videography, drone content, branding, graphic design, social media management, and content strategy, all under one roof. The idea is simple: your brand shouldn’t have to piece together five different vendors to tell one cohesive story. We handle it together, from concept to execution.
We work across a wide range of industries. Restaurants, health and wellness, beauty, sports, real estate, and more have all been part of our client roster. That range is something I’m genuinely proud of, because it means we’re not a one-trick agency. We adapt to the world of each client and learn what makes their brand worth paying attention to.
What sets us apart is a combination of things. We’re boutique by design, which means every client gets a personal, hands-on experience rather than being handed off to a junior team member they’ve never met. We bring a cinematic eye to everything we create, because we believe content should feel intentional, not just functional. And because we’re a small, nimble team, we can move quickly and stay closely connected to the work.
One area I’m especially proud of is our sailing and regatta content. It’s become a genuine specialty of mine, rooted in my own love for the sport, and it has grown into an actual client vertical for us. We work with sailing organizations and competitive teams to capture the speed, the strategy, and the raw beauty of the sport in a way that most agencies simply aren’t equipped to do. It’s a niche we’ve built a real portfolio in, and one where I think BruMedia truly stands out.
At the end of the day, what I want people to know about BruMedia is that we care deeply about the brands we work with. This started as a passion and it still is one. That shows up in the work.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
One resource I keep coming back to is “The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho. I’ve read it multiple times, and I think that says everything. It’s not a business book in the traditional sense, but it has taught me more about trusting the process and staying committed to your path than almost anything else I’ve come across. What I love most about it is that every time I pick it up, especially during seasons of change or uncertainty, I find something new in it. A different line lands differently, or a piece of it finally makes sense in a way it didn’t before. For me, it’s become less of a book and more of a resource I return to when I need perspective.
Beyond that, I think some of the most valuable tools in my life aren’t apps or podcasts but the people around me. The entrepreneurial community I’ve built in Tampa Bay, the clients who have trusted me, the fellow creatives I learn from and collaborate with, those relationships have shaped how I work and how I think more than any single resource ever could.
