Conversations with Esther Castañeda

Today we’d like to introduce you to Esther Castañeda.

Hi Esther, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey to becoming a therapist was shaped by my own life experiences and the growth that came from navigating challenges along the way. Those experiences gave me a deep appreciation for the healing that happens when people are met with support, perspective, and hope. My faith has also been a strong foundation in my life, helping me approach difficult seasons with resilience and optimism. Over time, what began as my own journey of growth evolved into a calling to walk alongside others as they embrace change and move toward the life they want to create.

Professionally, I’ve been fortunate to grow beyond traditional one-on-one therapy and serve in a variety of roles that have expanded my perspective. Along with individual counseling, I’ve facilitated therapy groups, worked with couples, provided premarital counseling, and became an ordained officiant, which has allowed me to officiate several weddings! (Something I’ve found incredibly meaningful and would love to continue doing more of.)

I’ve also had the opportunity to speak at events and share psychoeducation with a variety of audiences, helping people deepen their self-understanding, strengthen their relationships, and move through life’s challenges with more confidence and hope. When I look back on my journey, each step has reinforced what drew me to this work in the first place: a genuine passion for helping people recognize their strengths, grow through adversity, and create meaningful, lasting change in their lives.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like most people, it definitely hasn’t been a perfectly smooth road.

Early on, it was the usual balancing act: school, work, and everyday responsibilities while also trying to build a career and figure out who I was becoming. I also went through some major life transitions, including moving away and eventually coming back home (twice). Each of those shifts came with its own personal and professional adjustments.

The most difficult season of my life, though, was losing my father last year after two really hard years of watching his health slowly decline. During that time, my family and I experienced firsthand how caregiving responsibilities gradually increase as a loved one’s needs change, along with the emotional weight that comes with that. I watched my mother carry the role of primary caregiver, and I experienced the physical, emotional, and mental exhaustion that comes with living in a space of ambiguous grief: mourning someone while they’re still here, and then learning how to move forward after they’re gone.

As painful as that experience was, it shaped me in ways I don’t think anything else could have. It deepened my empathy in a way that only lived experience can, and it reminded me how essential presence, resilience, and human connection are during life’s hardest moments.

My father’s life, strength, and love still influence how I show up for others today. In many ways, everything I do is with him in mind, and I carry those lessons with me both personally and in my work as a therapist.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
One thing that’s always driven me is finding ways to make an impact beyond the therapy room. I love the work I do with clients, but I’m just as passionate about creating spaces where people can learn, connect, and grow on a larger scale.

One of the things I’m most proud of is co-launching the first-ever Align & Revive Women’s Empowerment Conference with my team last year! It was a full-day experience centered on education, mental health resources, and support for women from all walks of life. From start to finish, it was something we built together with a lot of heart and shared purpose. The turnout, the energy in the room, and the conversations that followed were incredibly powerful! Even now, people still talk about it, which constantly reminds me how needed spaces like that really are.

In my clinical work, I support clients through life transitions, relationship challenges, and moments of meaningful change. What sets me apart is my ability to blend professional expertise with authenticity, compassion, and a genuine belief in people’s capacity to grow. Whether I’m sitting with an individual, working with a couple, leading a group, or speaking to a larger audience, my goal is always the same: to create space where people feel seen, supported, and empowered to move forward.

And right now, I’m actually working on something new and exciting that I can’t fully share yet, but I can say it’s coming soon. So definitely stay tuned!

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
It might sound a little unexpected based on everything else I’ve shared, but what really makes me happy is just having time to myself. Being in nature, in solitude, and just kind of slowing everything down. That’s when I feel like I can reset and just be. I also really value my time with God because when I’m in His presence, I feel most grounded and able to make sense of things in a really simple, honest way.
