Meet Samantha Yana of Tampa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Yana.

Hi Samantha, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey into photography began when I was 12 years old. What started as a simple curiosity quickly grew into a passion as I found myself constantly drawn to capturing people, moments, and emotions around me. I spent years learning everything I could, practicing with whatever camera I had access to and teaching myself the fundamentals through trial and error.

As life evolved, so did my relationship with photography. Through different seasons of life, including becoming a wife, mother, and college student, photography remained a creative outlet and a constant source of inspiration. What once began as a childhood hobby eventually became something much more meaningful.

Today, photography allows me to preserve memories and tell stories in a way that feels authentic and lasting. Either it’s with my own children or telling the stories for every person in front of my camera.

Looking back, it’s incredible to see how a passion that began with a camera in the hands of a 12 year old girl has grown into a business that allows me to capture memories while doing something I truly love.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Getting into photography has not been the smoothest road. One of the biggest obstacles I have run into, especially as a mother, is finding a healthy work life balance while also being the one responsible for implementing it as my own boss.

In the beginning, I had to be very strict with myself and create a well thought out schedule for when I would allow myself to edit, reply to inquiries, and handle anything else business related, while also making sure the time I spent with my children and family remained uninterrupted.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a photographer, and I specialize in capturing family sessions, lifestyle sessions, portraits, and much more. I am most known for capturing genuine connection through warm, earthy tones.

What I’m most proud of is being able to say that despite every obstacle that has come my way, I have faced it head on and continued forward stronger than ever.

What I believe sets me apart is how passionate I am about ensuring that every person who books with me leaves their session with a story to tell and a positive feeling to carry with them. I truly believe that every photoshoot is an opportunity to make my clients feel welcomed, valued, and genuinely cared for. I want each session to be fun, relaxed, and enjoyable.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
My favorite podcast to listen to while editing or driving to and from photoshoots is Two Hot Takes on Spotify and YouTube. It’s entertaining, helps pass the time during long editing sessions, and keeps me engaged while I’m on the road.
