Today we’d like to introduce you to Anya McKenzie.
Hi Anya, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My mom always tells me the story of how I loved fashion and being the center of attention from the time I was small. I started in pageants and then became obsessed with modeling. I love the runway and commercial modeling. I just love the clothes and the community I’ve built. I am also an aspiring actress and I love that with commercial modeling I can still grow my skills.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been a smooth road. I have gotten a lot of rejections from agencies and not every casting results in a yes. I also had to grow my confidence because I was really nervous at first. I still feel nervous sometimes, but not as much and I’ve learned how to be around a lot of people without getting as anxious. I’m learning to accept rejection and not take it personal.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m known for being a model and actress. I am known for being apart of The Fashion Hub in Orlando, FL where we are a community of fashion creatives, models, photographers, makeup artists, etc who get to network and build together. I have been in theater shows, with the last one being A Christmas Carol. I am very proud of walking runway in New York Fashion Week and now I’m also proud of doing this article.
I would say what sets me apart from others is my theater kid personality! I am very down to earth, hard working, quirky, and fun and I think that makes me unique.
What’s next?
My future plans include booking a major runway show with a big brand for NYFW. Also, booking major commercials. Until then, I love growing as a model and actress. I plan on continuing to study in school too. One day I plan on becoming a famous model and a doctor. I believe in beauty and brains!
