Today we’d like to introduce you to Anita Powell.
Hi Anita, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in a small town in Minnesota; there weren’t very many people that looked like me so I always felt like an outsider. I got swept up with the wrong crowd and it led to a series of traumatising events that I thought would destroy my life forever. Instead, I picked myself up and turned that pain into my drive and motivation to do better and become better. My husband is active duty Air Force, so we currently are stationed in the UK. Covid hit us hard overseas and our lock-down process was very different. With the support of my family, I was able to take that time to go back to school for social media marketing and management. I had the drive and the extra time and I finished off my degree and started my own business. I have always been very creative, and this is my way to share my gift with others and help their businesses bloom. It is the perfect time to get started because we are planning our transition back to the US in a few months and will be based out of Florida.
I am very proud to show my children that you can come from the bottom and work your way to the top and as a child of immigrants, it is very important to me to be successful to prove that my parents’ sacrifices didn’t go unappreciated.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been a bit of a struggle getting started from overseas, but having a home already established in Riverview has helped the process along. I didn’t finish my degree the first time around because of time and money issues; having three kids is no walk in the park. The military offers grants and scholarships to spouses, which is how I was able to finish paying it off. My current struggle is that most things in the US are getting back to normal, so virtual calls are becoming a thing of that past, however, I am unable to be in office personally yet, so meeting with clients is getting in the way of confirming contracts.
As you know, we’re big fans of DewDrop Digital. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We are a social media marketing and management agency. We can do anything from setting up Facebook and Instagram pages to making or editing content and actually posting on your behalf. We look at trends, SEO insights and analytics to determine target audiences and what will work. From attention-grabbing ads to daily posts; We create content calendars for those who prefer to manage their own and directly post for others.
Blog guidance, photo ideas, and market analysis are included in all of our packages. We have packages available to fit every budget, from single ads to small businesses and even larger corporations which is an untapped market. A lot of agencies are out of price range for small business owners and they often cannot afford to bring on a new member to their staff for social media; that’s where we come in and tailor a pricing package to the needs of each business. I am an Indo-Caribbean military spouse and mother of three with specialist certifications that set DewDropDigital apart from the competition.
What are your plans for the future?
We are planning on opening an office space once we arrive back in Florida in a few months and hope to attract more clients by having face-to-face interactions. We are hoping to find a few photographers in the area that will help with branding photos and guidance moving forward.
