Meet Mellisa Dormoy of Englewood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mellisa Dormoy.

Hi Mellisa, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My interest in hypnosis and meditation has been ongoing for nearly 25 years. I moved from the US to France when I was 24 and studied Hypnosis in Paris along with pursuing higher education at La Sorbonne – The University of Paris.
By my late 20s, I saw clients for both hypnosis and HypnoBirthing regularly. I made take-home CDs for my clients back then. That eventually led to parents wanting short meditations for their children to go to sleep by. Years passed and that evolved into ShambalaKids (kids’ meditation audios) and eventually an app for kids to sleep by with 5 minute meditations, named Piku Calm Kids, which is still available today. My hypnosis and meditation audios for kids can also be found of Spotify, iTunes etc.
When I returned to the US in the mid 2000s, I continued to see hypnosis clients professionally and continued my studies of the mind and how our beliefs and thought patterns affect our daily lives and hold us in certain paradigms. I have always been fascinated by what Wayne Dyer once said – People share the same earth and yet can live in totally different realities. So true.
In 2012 I began writing children’s meditations for every issue of Green Child Magazine and continue to do that even today. I love helping people of all ages and I do believe that teaching our children meditation and stress management is so important to give them a very good start at life.
I’ve always been an avid reader, lifelong learner and spiritual seeker. It was during these early years that I came across the work of Dolores Cannon, a master hypnotherapist who was perfecting her form of hypnosis to guide people not only through past experiences that allowed them to reframe and release things that no longer served them, but also offered the client the opportunity to connect with their Higher Self. By connecting with this part of the client, she was then able to ask questions the client had previously written down to attain information and knowledge that would be most helpful to the client. This was revolutionary in the field and something I greatly admired. Dolores wrote 19 books, most of which I have read and which contain extraordinary session notes that are truly inspirational.
After both of my sons graduated from college, I decided to return to seeing clients in person. I had taken a hiatus and wrote 5 books (two for professionals working with guided imagery and meditation with kids and teens, two for kids based on guided imagery and one in conjunction with Dr. Joe Vitale of The Secret fame, which became an Amazon Best Seller, about creating the business and life of your dreams). I enjoy writing immensely. It’s one avenue I use to give my heart to things that can help and empower people, and that’s what I try to do. So, I decided to become a QHHT practitioner by studying with Julie Cannon (Dolores Cannon’s daughter who carries on the original Quantum Healing Hypnosis Technique teachings). I wanted to be able to lead clients specifically as Dolores had, in ways that could totally transform lives beyond regular hypnosis. I already knew the power of hypnosis because I had been doing it for almost two decades with great results, but QHHT was way deeper, more meaningful. Yes, it absolutely works on the physical level but even more astonishing, this was deep soul work.
This work gives me joy every single day to help transform people’s hurt, root out what ails them, answer profound questions, understand their life mission. I do QHHT hypnosis exclusively now with clients, since I absolutely love this form of hypnosis which helps clients who seek a deeper understanding of themselves and their lives in truly profound ways.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Business is always a learning curve. It’s never always totally smooth.
My biggest struggle was probably marketing, but I let word -of-mouth do that for me now instead. I’ve used all types of marketing over the 2 decades I’ve been in business, including most social media platforms. Today, I don’t do any besides word of mouth and occasionally uploading YouTube videos. I’ve discovered you really can’t (and shouldn’t) do it all, because you spread yourself too thin and it makes your effort less effective. Focus on one or two areas and get really good at those things.
Being an entrepreneur means wearing many hats and constantly juggling between those responsibilities, I have learned that who you are as a person really is what matters. Be professional always, let your ethics show clearly, be true to your word and make every situation a win-win for both people.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Opps! I answered these questions earlier in the “life story” questions.
In addition to the things I have already stated, I think what I am most proud of is living my life being an example of serving others and helping others on their live path. I started with a degree in Psychology but felt there could potentially be faster ways of healing than with traditional methods. QHHT combines my love of people and psychology with that deep inner healing that we seek.
People who come to see me understand right away that my presence is calming and my space is judgment free, confidential and I take all the time we need to hear their life story and what brought them in. We spend the first two hours (sometimes more) just talking about their lives, their childhood, important relationships, their dreams, their disappointments. It’s my job to listen. Sometimes people can go their entire lives without anyone really listening to them, without ever feeling truly validated. I love this part of my job so much, to be that calming presence for people to simply share in a safe space.
I don’t rush my sessions. I only see one client a day and we take as long as needed. During that session, I am 100% focused on my client and their situation. I have had sessions up to 8 hours long but usually sessions take between 4-6 hours. It’s nice to take that time and never look at a clock where the client knows that day is all about their lives and their questions and answers.
I’m located in Englewood but also offer in-home sessions in the Brandon and Saint Pete area all the way to Punta Gorda for the same price. I’m happy to travel within an hour approximately of Englewood, as long as the client’s home offers a quiet space.

How do you think about luck?
Hmmm…I don’t really believe in luck. I believe that opportunity presents itself when the person is ready and sometimes that has included me focusing on and choosing what I’d like to experience. If anything, I’ve always told myself “Good things are always happening to me”, as an affirmation.
Whenever something appears as “bad luck” to me personally, I always just see it as opportunity for growth, so it’s still good in that way. I take things as they come and know that one way or another, things will always work out.
In reality, I think we are all “lucky” just to be here on Earth at this time and that we are capable of and need to put our minds and hearts together to create a brighter future for ourselves and our future generations. Our minds are so much more powerful than we know, and more so when our minds work in conjunction with our hearts.
