Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Tiffany Bannworth.
Hi Dr. Tiffany, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Believe it or not, my entire journey started with a childhood love for Indiana Jones. When I was young, people would try to redirect the conversation by asking if I meant I wanted to marry Indiana Jones. I would always correct them — “No, I want to be Indiana Jones.”
Whenever someone asked if that meant I liked dinosaurs, I corrected them again: “That’s paleontology.” Even as a child, I already knew the difference, and I knew exactly where I wanted to be.
Today, I’m an archaeologist who also “sneaks” onto paleontology digs — not literally, of course. I’m invited, but I enjoy the adventurous verbiage. My work lets me stand in both worlds: unearthing the human story through archaeology while also joining teams who uncover the deep history of life itself.
That same passion shaped my career as an educator. I founded and run a Classical Adventure School, Bannworth Academy of Classical Education, where learning isn’t confined to textbooks — it’s hands-on, immersive, global, and infused with the wonder that inspired me as a child. We dig, we explore, we recreate ancient technologies, and we treat education as an expedition.
And on academic holidays… you never know where you might find me — sometimes halfway around the world following a lead, studying a site, or interviewing experts for my Ancient News series. Adventure has always been my compass, and somehow, every step of the journey keeps bringing me closer to the dream I declared as a child:
I didn’t just want to follow Indiana Jones. I wanted to become him — and in my own way, I did.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely not — my journey has not been smooth, and I would never pretend otherwise. I am a mother of eight children: seven boys and one girl. In 2013, the unthinkable happened. My sixth son laid down to sleep at just three and a half months old and never woke up. The grief was indescribable. I remember feeling as if an elephant were sitting on my chest, and I didn’t know how to keep breathing, much less keep moving forward.
It was my steadfast faith in Christ that carried me through that darkness. God spoke to me through dreams, and one dream in particular changed everything. In it, my husband and my first five sons were standing on a cliff, and a light from heaven descended. My son who had passed was being gently lowered toward me. God’s voice wasn’t heard but felt — a knowing in my spirit. I was shown that I could walk away from my family, catch him, and see them later… or I could stay with my family and see him later. Before I could even respond, God already knew my answer. My son was lifted back to heaven, and in that moment I understood: as much as I longed to hold him again, it would have been selfish to want him to return to a painful world when he was already in perfect peace and perfect joy.
Then in 2018, heartbreak struck again. My husband died unexpectedly in a motorcycle accident. That was on a Monday. By Thursday, I found out I was pregnant with our eighth child — our only daughter. I often say that God allowed my husband to give me one last gift on his way home to the Lord.
Through every unimaginable moment, God has been my stronghold in times of trouble. My path hasn’t been smooth, but it has been guided. And the strength I’ve gained through sorrow is the same strength I bring to my work, my students, and my mission today. My joy is in the Lord and not in my circumstance.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Bannworth Academy of Classical Education is a unique, mission-driven microschool built on three pillars that define everything we do: the Classical Method, Global Instruction, and our trademarked educational model, Chrono-Teaching™. Together, these create a learning experience that is academically rigorous, culturally immersive, and chronologically anchored — giving students a true sense of where humanity has been and where they fit within the story of the world.
We also offer niche micro-specialties that reflect my own background and passions: Ancient World Studies, Ancient Languages, and Archaeology. Students at Bannworth aren’t just reading about history; they are handling replicas, examining artifacts, practicing ancient writing systems, and learning to think like historians, linguists, and explorers. We believe education should feel like discovery.
Every student chooses both a foreign language and a musical instrument as foundational elements of their academic formation. By 12th grade graduation, each student must be able to hold a full conversation with a native speaker of the language they selected and perform five musical pieces on their chosen instrument, with at least three classical works. This expectation develops cultural fluency, discipline, and academic confidence.
What truly sets Bannworth Academy apart is our ability to meet every child where they are — and to help them rise far beyond where they started. We have made extraordinary strides with students across all abilities:
• Children who were behind are now thriving
• Students with special needs experience breakthroughs that transform their lives
• Students performing at grade level advance well beyond it
• Gifted and genius-level learners are given room to sprint as far as their brilliance leads
We are also far more than a K–12 microschool. Bannworth Academy has grown into a fully developed educational ecosystem. We offer K–12 education, specialized tutoring, adult education, and Professor Adventure’s Virtual University, which provides online global instruction for learners of all ages. Beyond the classroom, we lead adventure tours, academic field experiences, and even participate in real archaeological and paleontological excavations. Our students and families don’t just study the world — they explore it.
Brand-wise, I am most proud that Bannworth Academy has become known as a place where children come alive. Families tell us that their children rediscover joy, curiosity, confidence, and identity here. Our model is intentional, personal, rigorous, and deeply transformative. Bannworth Academy is not just an institution — it is an adventure in education, designed to form scholars, explorers, thinkers, and world changers.
Every part of our model is intentional, and every student’s success is personal to us.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
First and foremost, all praise and glory go to Jesus Christ. I often joke that I operate on the “Jesus Bank Account,” because time and time again, Jesus has made a way where there was absolutely no way. Every provision, every open door, every unexpected opportunity — I attribute it entirely to Him. I believe this school is more than an educational institution; it is a divine mission, and I walk the path God has laid out for me with humility and gratitude.
God has also placed the right students and families at exactly the right time. Our school family is extraordinary — the parents rally together, support one another, and uphold the vision of Bannworth Academy in ways that are rare and deeply meaningful. Their partnership is intrinsic to our success, and I am profoundly grateful for their trust, dedication, and unity.
My own children are the cornerstone of my hard work. They are the reason I push forward, endure, and create something meaningful. Their resilience, encouragement, and presence anchor everything I do. But they too work hard and go above and beyond. Not only do they work all day at school, but they are active in the day-to-day operation. My two oldest have graduated from here, and now work here as well. I couldn’t be more proud.
So while the structure of the school may rest on my shoulders, the strength behind it comes from Jesus Christ, from my children, from our remarkable students, and from the families who believe in this mission. To Jesus I give all praise; to my children, students, and school families I offer my heartfelt gratitude.
