Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsey Leigh.
Hi Lindsey, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born in Chicago and grew up the furthest thing from the lifestyle I live today. Nothing about my upbringing pointed toward homesteading, making everything from scratch, or growing our own food. I’m not a multigenerational farmer by any stretch of the imagination, I’m just a girl who always felt like she grew up in the wrong era. But somewhere along the way, I realized I’m actually right where I’m supposed to be.
Everything I do for the most part is self taught. I learned to garden, make herbal remedies, render tallow, can, ferment, and create a more sustainable home one experiment at a time through lots of trial, error and “well… that didn’t work” moments. And because I started with zero background, I love teaching others how to begin from the same place. If my mistakes can help someone else live a simpler, less dependent life, then it’s all worth it.
A huge turning point for our family was when my husband was diagnosed with cancer. We had already been trying to live more intentionally but that moment changed the trajectory of everything. We started replacing one thing at a time, stripping life back to what actually mattered. For a while we went full “team extreme,” and eventually learned that’s nearly impossible in a modern world. Now we live by a healthy 80/20 approach that gives us both intention and balance.
Feral Farmacy grew naturally out of all of this. What started as a hobby, making clean, organic, functional remedies and products for my own family had slowly became something people kept asking for. It unfolded organically and my only regret is not starting sooner. Today, I get to create products with a purpose, teach others how to begin their own homesteading or natural living journey, and share things that have truly helped our family heal!
We also homeschool our four children, so our days are a beautiful blend of homesteading rhythms, herbal crafting, learning, and everyday chaos. It’s not the life I came from but it’s absolutely the life I was meant for. And I’m grateful I get to pass on what I’ve learned rooted in intention, shaped by experience, and just a little bit… or a lotta bit… feral.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not… it’s been anything but a smooth road. Our family has walked through more highs and lows than most people will ever see from the outside. We’ve faced health battles, financial strain, unexpected setbacks, and plenty of seasons where it felt like we were rebuilding from scratch. Homesteading itself is humbling, too as nature doesn’t care about your plans, and learning everything the hard way seems to be my specialty.
But we don’t live in those struggles. We don’t let them define us or become our narrative. Instead, we use every challenge as a teachable moment for ourselves and for our kids. Those experiences have shaped us, refined us, and pushed us to grow in ways comfort never could. They’ve made us more intentional, more resilient, and more connected to the life we’re choosing to build.
Every obstacle has played a part in helping us step into our power, prioritize what truly matters, and keep moving forward with purpose. We’ve learned that the road doesn’t have to be smooth to be meaningful and that’s what keeps us going.
We’ve been impressed with Feral Farmacy , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Feral Farmacy is my heart in business form. It’s a small batch apothecary rooted in homesteading, herbalism, and a commitment to clean, functional products that actually work. Everything I make is handcrafted from scratch using intentional, high-quality ingredients… many of them grown right here on our homestead or sourced organically.
I specialize in functional herbal remedies, tallow and herbal skincare, natural soaps, scrubs, balms, and other wellness products that support the body instead of overwhelming it. People often tell me they come for the clean ingredients but stay for the results and the playful names don’t hurt either. I’m serious about formulation, but I never want to lose the joy, creativity, and personality that make Feral Farmacy feel alive.
What sets my brand apart is that it’s truly personal. I’m not a corporation or a white label shop. I’m a self taught homesteader, herbalist, and creator who pours intention into every single product. Every recipe is researched, tested, refined, and made with purpose. I don’t take shortcuts and I don’t use fillers, dyes, or anything that compromises the integrity of our high quality, organic ingredients. If it doesn’t meet the standard for my own family, it doesn’t go out the door.
I’m most proud of the fact that people trust my products for themselves and their children. That’s not something I take lightly. Every time I get a message asking for a suggestion it fills my cup. Feral Farmacy was built slowly and organically one remedy, one product, one customer at a time and the community that’s grown around it is something I’m deeply grateful for.
What I want readers to know is that Feral Farmacy is about empowering people to live more intentionally and simply. My offerings aren’t just products, they’re tools. Tools to help you detox your home, support your wellness naturally, and shift away from dependency on things that don’t serve you. I also love teaching others how to start their own journey, whether that’s homesteading, herbalism, or just swapping out one item at a time.
At its core, Feral Farmacy is a blend of old world wisdom and modern practicality… clean, handcrafted, effective, and made with a whole lot of heart and a ton of feral af energy.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memories are the times I spent with my grandparents and great grandparents. I loved being in the kitchen with them… watching, helping, learning, and soaking up every bit of their “old school” way of doing things. Those slow, intentional moments shaped me more than I realized at the time.
One of my sweetest memories is sipping coffee with my great grandma and dipping my cookies in her cup like it was the most normal thing in the world. It was simple, but it felt like magic. They taught me how to cook, how to pay attention, and how to appreciate the little things, and those values have carried into everything I do now. Looking back, their influence is a huge part of why I’m drawn to homesteading, handmade living and the kind of intentional life I’m building for my family today.
