Check Out Samantha And Laura Kilpatrick’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha And Laura Kilpatrick.

Hi Samantha and Laura, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
As a wife, mother, mother-in-law, daughter, and photographer, I (Laura) feel incredibly grateful for the life I’ve been given and the one I’ve built. Especially, alongside my husband and our three amazing adult children. My photography journey began simply as a way to document the fleeting moments of our family’s life, but over time, it grew into something much deeper. Photography changed how I see the world: it taught me to slow down, cherish the small details, and recognize the beauty and individuality in every person I photograph. What began as a creative outlet eventually became a calling and a way to serve others and preserve life’s most meaningful connections. One of my greatest blessings has been evolving this passion into a business I now share with my daughter, Samantha.

For me (Samantha), photography has been part of my life for as long as I can remember, though I never expected it to become my career. Everything shifted when I took a photography class in high school and felt something spark, something that connected me to both my mom’s love for photography and my grandfather as our family’s documentarian. I realized that storytelling through imagery was woven into who I am. Being trusted to capture significant, emotional moments for others felt like both an honor and a purpose. As I grew, so did my passion, and the relationships I formed through photography became one of the most rewarding parts of the journey.

After trying many styles together, we eventually discovered our shared love for capturing stories of connection, especially love stories. When I (Samantha) booked our first wedding through a referral, it felt like a sign that we had found the work we were meant to do. From that moment on, we committed ourselves to photographing couples and weddings, blending Documentary and Editorial styles to create images that feel real, beautiful, and timeless. That path, rooted in family, creativity, and purpose, is what brought us to where we are today.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Building a business as a mother-daughter team has been a journey of growth, trust, and creativity. One of our biggest challenges has been learning how to balance our family relationship with our professional partnership. It took time to understand when to lean into our roles as business partners and when to simply be mom and daughter. But each challenge ultimately strengthened us. By embracing each other’s strengths and pushing one another to grow, we’ve become a team that works in complete sync with two photographers who understand each other deeply and capture every moment from multiple perspectives.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Our work is rooted in a thoughtful blend of Editorial and Documentary storytelling. We specialize in capturing candid emotion with intentional artistry, allowing moments to unfold naturally while still offering refined, beautifully composed portraits. Early in our journey, we relied more heavily on posed shots because we believed that was the standard for couples’ photography. As we grew, we discovered how much more meaningful it is to document movement, authenticity, and the unique personality of every couple. That realization shaped the signature style we’re now known for: images that feel genuine, emotive, and timeless.

What we’re most proud of is the relationships we build with our clients. Being invited to document the milestones of their lives, engagements, weddings, maternity sessions, and family portraits is an honor we don’t take lightly. Every session stays with us. And at weddings, the first dances and parent dances move us every single time; those moments remind us why we do what we do.
What sets us apart is our commitment to creating imagery that not only looks beautiful but also feels honest. We’re not just capturing how moments look, we’re capturing how they feel.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
One of my (Samantha’s) most cherished childhood memories is our family’s tradition of dressing up for Christmas and taking our annual holiday card photos. Every year had its own theme, and those little moments of laughter, matching outfits, and shared excitement made each photo feel magical. When we look back at them now, we see how our family grew, changed, and became even closer over time. It’s a memory that means so much to both me and my mom (Laura), because those photos captured not just a holiday tradition, but the love and togetherness that has shaped our family.
