Today we’d like to introduce you to Deborah Kent Skyrms.
Hi Deborah Kent, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
After helping out in a small antique store at the age of 13, I fell in love with the excitement and creativity of the retail environment.. I continued to work in fashion retail throughout my school years. I graduated from FSU with a degree in Merchandising and Textiles, at which point I was hired into the Executive Training Program at local department store chain, Maas Brothers. After nine years of buying for their 23 stores, I decided it was time for me to pursue my longtime dream of owning my own store. In 1980, Deborah Kent’s became a reality. I have enjoyed all the aspects of fashion retail. I have traveled nationally and internationally searching out cutting edge designers not represented in this market.
The discovery of new talent and the opportunity to present it to my cherished clientele, has fired my desire to continue for many years. I have the best retail team that I have ever heard of and consider them family.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been an incredible journey, but there have been bumps in the road, such as multiple recessions, 9/11 , COVID-19 , destructive hurricanes , and break ins at my first location (to name a. few.). All challenges have aided in my personal growth and determination to succeed and continue.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
