We recently had the chance to connect with Shanta Horlander and have shared our conversation below.
Shanta, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: When was the last time you felt true joy?
This past Saturday and Sunday, it was a beautiful, sunny fall morning when I went running with my dog in the streets of Chicago. We ran up Dearborn street and across one of the Chicago River Bridges and took in the many gorgeous buildings above us and the healing water below us. It was so invigorating and fresh and I got to share it with my best buddy Bubba.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am an intuitive, mostly acrylic painter who is passionate about creating beautiful, imaginative paintings. My latest passion is creating unusual, dream like flower pieces. I strive to let other worlds create and communicate through me into my art. The pieces are always meant to lift the viewer and perhaps remind him of other realities and worlds beyond our day to day life. And, if I can also throw in some insouciance, then I have done it!
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
From the age of 3, I knew I was here to experience and express a spiritual reality while still living in this crazy and beautiful world. I knew I was meant to be an artist and to create and experience and share aesthetics.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
It’s okay to be different, to be aware, to live in a world of your own making without needing to prove it to anybody else. You know your truth and that’s all that matters
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What important truth do very few people agree with you on?
You don’t have to prove yourself to have value. Your very beingness has value.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If immortality were real, what would you build?
Immortality is real. You may not be in this same body forever but the real you, the true you, is immortal.
