Deme Thomas shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Good morning Deme, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What is a normal day like for you right now?
My days start early and end late. During the week, I spend my days working full-time at the cardiologist’s office—caring for patients, many of them elders who remind me daily of life’s fragility and beauty. As soon as I clock out, I switch gears and head to my spa, where I pour my heart into helping women heal, relax, and feel beautiful through yoni steams, facials, and self-care experiences. My weeks blend together—days filled with compassion at the clinic and nights filled with passion at the spa. It’s exhausting at times but knowing I’m making a difference in people’s lives keeps me going. It’s my soul purpose.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is **Deme Thomas**, also known as **WaistbeadsByD**, and I recently partnered with a good friend and “Tori Gomillion” and partner the proud owner of **Bloom & Waistbeads Beauty Haven**—a holistic spa dedicated to helping women reconnect with their divine feminine energy through self-care, healing, and wellness. By day, I work full-time at a cardiologist’s office, caring for patients and learning firsthand how precious our health and peace of mind truly are. By evenings and on weekends, I pour that same compassion into my spa, offering services like herbal yoni steams, relaxing facials, wood therapy, and custom waistbeads that inspire women to nurture themselves inside and out. What makes my brand special is its heart— we
created Bloom & Waistbeads as a safe, sacred space for women to breathe, release, and bloom. Right now, I’m focused on expanding my wellness offerings and creating more opportunities for women in my community to experience healing and wholeness in a way that feels personal, spiritual, and empowering.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
The relationship that most shaped how I see myself is the one I’ve built with God and my parents. Over time, I’ve learned that my connection with the Divine is what grounds me, guides me, and constantly reminds me of my purpose. Through every challenge and season of growth, my Faith has taught me that healing begins within—that I am both a vessel and a reflection of divine love. This spiritual relationship with God has been instilled in me by my parents and grandparents from a very young age & because of that it has helped me see myself not just as a woman who serves others, but as a soul walking in alignment with her calling to bring light, peace, and restoration to those around her.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes, there was a time I almost gave up. Recently, I faced one of the hardest seasons of my life—financial struggles that nearly left me without a place to live. It felt like everything I had worked so hard for was slipping through my fingers. I was exhausted from trying to hold it all together—working full-time, running my spa, and still struggling to make ends meet. There were nights I cried and questioned if I was really meant to keep going. But deep down, my faith reminded me that this was only a chapter, not the end of my story. I kept pushing, praying, and believing that better days were ahead. That strength and resilience—fueled by purpose and faith—are what keep me moving forward, even when the road feels heavy.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What truths are so foundational in your life that you rarely articulate them?
One truth that’s deeply rooted in my life is that **everything happens for a reason**, even when I don’t understand it. I believe every setback, every delay, and every heartbreak carries a lesson meant to shape me for what’s next. Another truth is that **healing isn’t just physical—it’s spiritual and emotional too**. The energy we pour into others must also be poured back into ourselves. And most importantly, I believe that **faith and gratitude are the foundation of peace**—when I stay aligned with God and thankful for even the smallest blessings, I find strength to keep going, no matter what life brings.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What light inside you have you been dimming?
The light I’ve been dimming is my own joy. Somewhere between caring for others, working long hours, and trying to keep everything together, I stopped allowing myself to simply *be happy* without a reason or responsibility attached to it. I’ve been so focused on pouring into everyone else—my clients, my patients, my community—that I forgot my own glow deserves attention too. My creativity, my peace, my softness—all the things that make me *me*—have been quietly waiting for me to give them space again. I’m realizing now that dimming my light doesn’t help anyone; it’s time to let it shine freely, because that light is what inspires and heals others the most.
