We recently had the chance to connect with Dmytro Ushakov and have shared our conversation below.
Dmytro, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What are you chasing, and what would happen if you stopped?
I’m not chasing anything in particular. I simply live fully in the present, savoring every moment. I enjoy the life I have here in the USA—the people, the weather, the nature—and I especially cherish sharing it all with my wife. I believe that everything happens in its own time, and rushing only brings stress and drains energy. So when I pause, I fully embrace it, finding joy in the calm, in stillness, and in the simple pleasure of being alive together.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello! My name is Dmytro Ushakov, and together with my wife, Inha, we run Goldenhandsman LLC, a home improvement and construction company specializing in quality repairs, painting, wallpaper installation, and custom wooden structures like gazebos and swings. We also create stunning decorative walls and beautiful spaces for TVs and fireplaces, adding style and comfort to every home.
What truly drives us is making our clients happy. We work efficiently without compromising quality, tackling big projects in just one day thanks to our teamwork. For us, there’s nothing more rewarding than solving our clients’ problems quickly and seeing the joy on their faces when the job is done.
At Goldenhandsman LLC, we pour passion, care, and attention to detail into every project. Being able to transform a space, create comfort, and leave our clients genuinely satisfied is what makes our work meaningful—and that happiness is what motivates us every single day.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who taught you the most about work?
Life itself shaped who I am and taught me the most about work. My father passed away from cancer when I was just one year old, and my mother needed help with repairs around the house. I had no choice but to step in, taking on responsibilities far beyond my age. I became the man of the family early on, learning to care, provide, and work hard.
As I grew, I helped anyone in need, and through that journey, I discovered a deep and lasting love for wood and craftsmanship. Working with wood, creating structures, and transforming spaces became my passion. Every cut, every project, every finished piece carries a piece of my heart. Life taught me that hard work, dedication, and love for what you do can build not just structures, but a life full of meaning and joy.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self: “Dmytro, don’t despair. Right now, it may feel like you have nothing and that life shows very little good, but if you never give up, you will find your true purpose. Keep going, stay strong, and trust yourself—one day, your life will completely transform into something wonderful, full of happiness, meaning, and opportunities you can’t even imagine now.”
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a belief you used to hold tightly but now think was naive or wrong?
I used to believe that I had to live where I was born and always stay close to family. I thought happiness could only be found there. But by the time I turned 50, I realized that my true place was on another continent. Coming to the USA, I discovered that this is my home, where my life truly belongs.
The world is vast and full of incredible places. It’s a shame when people limit themselves to one spot, never realizing that elsewhere they could truly find themselves and their purpose. Perhaps my wife and I even lived here in a past life, and now we’ve returned to fulfill our karma and destiny. Life has shown me that sometimes you must step beyond the familiar to discover where you truly belong—and that leap can change everything.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. If immortality were real, what would you build?
If immortality were real, I would dedicate myself to building affordable, energy-efficient homes for everyone—dream homes that bring freedom rather than debt. I imagine a world where no one has to spend 30 years of their life paying for a house, and where each person can enjoy a small, cozy home with a little yard, filled with comfort and happiness. People don’t need much to live fully; they need a space that feels like home.
My dream would be to create communities where everyone can thrive, live freely, and feel the joy of having a place to truly belong. To me, building these homes wouldn’t just be construction—it would be creating hope, security, and a better future for generations to come.
