Today we’d like to introduce you to Tracy McCoy.
Tracy, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
In 2015 while expecting the birth of our first daughter, I decided I wanted to start a small marketing agency to give me a work from home opportunity after Rylee was born. I did my first sales pitch 35 weeks pregnant and signed our first 2 clients. 4 months into the adventure my husband James was laid off and we took it as a sign that he was to join the team . After a few scary months we had a major breakthrough that launched our company Get Fish Slapped into gear. A contact from my past career reached out for marketing assistance for a hotel, restaurant and coffee shop. that’s the good news. The challenging news was the project was in Charlotte North Carolina. So with new born Rylee and husband in tow we spend the next 5 months commuting from Florida to Charlotte North Carolina. We learned so much during this project and developed photography, videography, graphic and website skills all executed in house. Our goal was to provide a one stop destination for clients to have all their met. Along the way our local client base grew thanks to great local chamber of commerces support. As the number of clients grew we began to bring on more fish slapper teammates to assist James and I. Each team member brings a passion to take great care of the clients with a positive attitude and a willingness to develop new skills. We also added Facebook ad’s manager services, Google ad services and Geo Fence services along with audience and data management
We have the good fortune to have amazing local business that have been with us since day one of Get Fish Slapped. Oh yeah about the name, I needed a name for the company and James( my husband) and I have a running joke about using a fish slap to get attention. Now we use it as a mantra awaken our clients to their marketing opportunities. In addition to our long term clients we are proud to be the Official Media Partner of the Sebring International Raceway a Nascar property, Official Media Partner of the Sebring Soda Festival and our ongoing partnership with Apple being one of their Apple Business Connect success stories found on their website. In the beginning of 2025 we celebrated our 10th year in business and could not be happier. We have become Meta partners, Google partners, WordPress Certified, Shopify Certified and achieved the Legendary status on WIX. Along with our team of 12 fish slappers we look forward to what the next decade holds for US.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There has been their fair share of challenges and opportunities alone the way. Good hires, not so good hires, tough clients unexpected expenditures and cancelations. Thankfully I have a partner that keeps me balanced and we have met a circle of business owners that offer support and advice to inspire us to push forward. We focus on “we get to do this, we don’t have to do this”. James and I focus on the needs of our clients and the team and that helps us through the challenging times.

As a proud alumni of University of Central Florida with a degree in Hospitality I had the great opportunity to work with Marriott International. There I developed a passion to serve, honed my customer skills and developed my abilities for branding , concept development and managing multiple projects. Before leaving Marriott to start our business I had the good fortune to be the Direction of Operations at the Station on South Beach Marriott as well as serving on the corporate Gold Standard Beverage Cadre that developed the beverage program for Marriott properties Worldwide. I believe I am know for my passion to succeed and my compassion to develop my fellow team members. One of my true north quotes I follow is “do something today that you will thank yourself for in the future.”

Get Fish Slapped always looks for opportunities to collaborate. In addition to our roster of clients we select 12 no profits a year that we partner with and donate our service to them for 1 year.
