Meet Koni and Jeid LJ Hunter

Today we’d like to introduce you to Koni and Jeid LJ Hunter.

Hi Koni and Jeid, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
We are Koni and Jeid LJ Hunter owners of Sound Mind and Body Wellness, LLC. We are a black-owned, women-owned wellness center serving the Tampa Bay area. We empower marginalized communities by providing health & wellness resources in support of mental, physical and spiritual well-being. Our objective is self-liberation; introducing other aspects of self-care through therapeutic touch, education and community involvement while making it accessible is our goal. This dream was ignited from the age of eight. I have been practicing the art of bodywork since then. I found myself cultivated in direct support and service ever since.

After graduating Cortiva institute 19’, we quickly expanded into our very first location three days before the announcement of quarantine unplanned. We were immediately shut down for six months but still kept! Fast forward and here we are expanding through the storm and are now currently hiring and in search for a bigger location.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
There has definitely been some challenges. We launched our business in the midst of a national pandemic, and being in the service industry, we were heavily affected. We are also a brand new company, and so because of that, we have not been able to receive any assistance at all from anywhere due to lack of history. So 2020 was more like a double edge sword. We are proud and grateful to still be expanding during this time, which is an indication that SMBW is desired amongst the community.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I love making impact through my voice and my hands. As a spiritual katalyst, I create and hold space enabling people to thrive through self-liberating products and services they can easily identify with and implement. My niche is self-care and being able to provide tangible resources in support of it.

I’m most proud of creating the first and only black-owned, woman-owned wellness center serving the Tampa Bay Area! What sets us aside from others is the level and quality of client focus. We have over 80+ 5 star reviews from satisfied clients who would agree. 🙂 -Koni

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
The quality of care that we provide to each and every client, I feel, is the most important characteristic to our success. We have a client intake process before and after all of our sessions that provide a sense of security, honesty and genuine concern.
