Today we’d like to introduce you to Rhys Shapiro.
Hi Rhys, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I actually got my start back in Fort Myers, where I learned the ins and outs of landscaping, horticulture and what it really takes to deliver great service in this industry. Over time, I realized how much I loved seeing an idea on paper come to life in someone’s yard — it’s a pretty rewarding process.
When I moved to St. Pete, I saw an opportunity to build something of my own — a company that focuses on creativity, communication, and truly going above and beyond for clients.
That’s how RMS Landscapes came to be. It started as an idea, just me wanting to do things the right way, and it’s grown into something I’m really proud of — helping homeowners create outdoor spaces that they fall in love with.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Oh, definitely not a smooth road — and I don’t think it ever really is when you own a business! There are plenty of long days, unexpected challenges, and moments where you’re learning on the fly. I always joke that being a business owner means wearing about ten hats at once — designer, scheduler, problem solver, you name it.
But honestly, that’s what makes it so rewarding. Every challenge has taught me something — whether it’s how to communicate better with clients, how to manage growth, or how to balance creativity with the business side of things. Watching RMS Landscapes grow, seeing our projects transform properties, and hearing from happy clients makes all the hard work worth it.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
At RMS Landscapes, we focus on creating outdoor spaces that feel like a natural extension of the home — something that looks great but also feels right for the space and the people living there. I handle the design side, and I’d say my creative eye is what really drives the process. I love taking a blank canvas and turning it into something tropical, functional, and full of personality.
We specialize in full landscape design and installation — from tropical front gardens to clean, modern courtyards and everything in between. What I’m most proud of is the balance we’ve found between design and experience. We’re not just planting trees and laying pavers; we’re helping people create their own slice of paradise.
What sets us apart, I think, is our attention to detail and our communication. We really focus on making the process enjoyable for clients — because transforming a yard should be exciting, not stressful. And if I’m being honest, I can’t help but obsess over the small things… which I like to think is part of the charm!
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I love most about St. Pete is how alive the city feels — there’s always something going on. Between the beaches, the art scene, the restaurants, and the people, there’s just this great energy here. It’s beautiful in every sense — not just the palm trees and sunsets, but the mix of old Florida charm and modern creativity.
Every neighborhood has its own personality, and that makes it such a fun place to design in. You can draw inspiration from the water, the architecture, or even just a walk downtown. It’s one of those cities that keeps you inspired all year long.
