Meet Deborah Kadagian of Ananda Therapy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Deborah Kadagian.

Hi Deborah, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Deborah Kadagian, LCSW is a licensed clinical social worker, integrative psychotherapist, and founder of the Solas Foundation. With over 25 years of experience in mental health and holistic healing, she specializes in trauma recovery, addiction treatment, and psychedelic integration therapy.

Deborah holds advanced certifications in Ayurvedic counseling, and psychedelic integration. Her work bridges Western clinical models with indigenous and somatic approaches, developed through direct training in India, and travels to Peru, Mexico, South Africa, and Costa Rica.

She is the producer of the award-winning documentary Healing the Mind: The Synthesis of Western Psychiatry and Ayurveda (featured on Gaia), and has authored a book, The Alchemy of Grief: Conversations in Paint as well as several articles on the therapeutic use of plant medicines and trauma-informed care.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road is not always smooth. As I got older, I learned that the rough roads were just as important, if not more important, to my evolution as a human being. If I was able to navigate rough roads with a similar equanimity as the smooth roads, then I was always going to be okay either way.

As you know, we’re big fans of Ananda Therapy. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I am an integrative psychotherapist, working with clients who are seeking to understand plant medicine experiences, dreams, and life challenges. I enjoy offering integrative groups, as I think we all learn from each other, and creating community within the group is much needed in our culture.

I spend half of my time as an artist, making sure that my creativity is able to be expressed. I am a more fulfilled human being when I have balance in my life.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I enjoyed math and gymnastics the most although I was able to bring my attention to all subjects in school and was quite focused. I was not overly extroverted and I’m still not. I enjoyed being by myself and reading, and also loved being with friends and going to concerts and hanging out, going on simple adventures.
