Today we’d like to introduce you to Marianne Hayes.
Hi Marianne, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Writing has always been in my bones, but I had no idea how to actually make a living doing it. I also wanted the time and creative freedom to work from home and be with my children. For years, I worked as a teacher but quietly dreamed of being a freelance writer. I took the leap in 2013, quitting my job with no real plan of how I’d bring my dream to life. (I don’t necessarily recommend this!) It was tough going at first, but I soon discovered the world of content marketing and everything changed. I reached out to companies and marketing agencies and carved out a niche writing financial marketing content. These days I’m devoting my attention and energy to more sacred work—transformation through astrological writing and journaling.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Finding clients and figuring out how to make a living as a freelance writer wasn’t a clear path. There was a lot of trial and error, especially when I was first starting out. I undervalued my services and said yes to every project—and burned myself out. Remembering my worth was the game-changer.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Financial content marketing has been an incredible resource for me, providing regular income and time freedom. That has allowed me to focus on things that speak more to my heart, like group journaling sessions and astrological writing. I’m most interested in using writing as a tool for healing, transformation and self-compassion.
What matters most to you?
Doing meaningful work that resonates with my soul’s calling. I believe each of us was born with a unique gift that no one else has, and part of our life’s purpose is to bring that gift forth and share it.
