Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Dex Davis of Riverview

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Dex Davis. Check out our conversation below.

Dex, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day for me at the moment consists of a lot of planning work around my family.
With a kindergartner, a newborn, and a spouse working full time. I often find myself trying to make time for my own work.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Dex Davis, and I’m the founder of Guardian Cherub Contractors — a company I built from the ground up with a focus on craftsmanship, integrity, and excellence in every project we touch. My entrepreneurial journey actually started far from construction — I began by cleaning cars. Over time, that hustle, attention to detail, and drive to serve people evolved into something much bigger.

Today, Guardian Cherub Contractors is known for creating bold, custom spaces that bring our clients’ visions to life — whether it’s a luxury accent wall, a full remodel, or a complete transformation of a property. What makes our brand unique is our commitment to treating every project like it’s our own, blending creativity with precision and care.

Right now, we’re expanding our portfolio and building a name as a modern, reliable contractor brand that stands for quality, trust, and passion. My story is a reminder that no matter where you start, if you stay consistent and believe in your vision, you can build something powerful from the ground up.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
My earliest memory of feeling powerful dates back to my sophomore year at the University of Baltimore. After having a brief yet impactful conversation with my economics professor about my skill sets, experiences, and goals. He leveled with me and asked “what are you doing here? You have everything you need to build more than what you’re aspiring to achieve.”
In a way, he told me that I was overqualified for what I was currently doing. But, that wasn’t the first time I heard that. I’ve also had hiring managers at companies say the same thing. “You’re overqualified, You won’t stay here long”

It was then — having the conversation with my professor — that I realized the only thing holding me back was myself. From that moment on i actually started planning and building something for myself.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self that it’s okay to put yourself first — not everyone has your best interest at heart. For a long time, I gave so much of myself trying to please others or prove my worth, but I’ve learned that protecting your peace and prioritizing your goals isn’t selfish, it’s necessary. Once I started valuing my time, energy, and vision, everything began to fall into place. You can’t pour into others if your own cup is empty — and that’s a lesson I had to live to truly understand.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What truths are so foundational in your life that you rarely articulate them?
Simple, Once you know who true God is and give up thinking you know better. God leads everything to go the way that it should. The successes as well as the hardships.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Absolutely. I’ve been giving my best for years without expecting praise or recognition. When you’re truly passionate about what you do, the motivation comes from within — not from applause. I’ve learned that real success isn’t about who’s watching; it’s about showing up, putting in the work, and staying consistent even when no one’s clapping. The results always speak louder than the recognition.
