Lynn Dowdell of Northwest on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Lynn Dowdell. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Lynn, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: Are you walking a path—or wandering?
I’m walking a path that I once could only imagine. Vin Collective continues to flourish, creating elevated experiences that connect people through culture and conversation. And now, through The Dowdell Experience, I’ve founded a space where leadership meets legacy. Every step is intentional… I’m no longer wandering; I’m walking with purpose, presence, and passion.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Lynn Dowdell – founder of Vin Collective and The Dowdell Experience. Both brands reflect different expressions of the same philosophy that guides my work and life: to elevate every interaction.

With Vin Collective, I curate luxury wine experiences that celebrate connection through culture, storytelling, and sophistication, blending my wine expertise with a love for bringing people together. As the brand continues to flourish, I also founded The Dowdell Experience, a leadership and personal development platform focused on helping others lead with purpose, build high-touch brands, and cultivate meaningful relationships that last.

Running both individually and collectively allows me to bridge two worlds, hospitality and luxury, leadership and purpose. Whether I’m pouring a glass or speaking on stage, my goal remains the same: to create intentional experiences that leave people seen, inspired, and transformed.

I’m walking a path, not wandering – one built on faith, purpose, and the belief that excellence and empathy can coexist in every interaction.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
I grew up in a community where people looked out for one another. My earliest leadership lessons didn’t come from titles or positions, they came from watching how small acts of kindness could hold a neighborhood together. I saw how quickly bonds could break when people stopped listening, when pride replaced empathy, or when fear silenced truth. Those moments stayed with me.

What restores those bonds is what I call presence with purpose – showing up with authenticity, compassion, and the intent to understand, rather than just responding. That awareness became the foundation of how I live, lead, and serve today.

Through The Dowdell Experience, I teach others to lead from that same space, where connection, trust, and integrity are non-negotiable. And through Vin Collective, I’ve seen how something as simple as sharing a glass of wine can restore community and spark meaningful dialogue. Both brands are different expressions of the same truth I learned long ago: when we slow down, listen, and lead with heart, we don’t just connect – we heal.

When did you last change your mind about something important?
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is that it’s okay to change your mind and even your direction. For a long time, I equated consistency with staying the same, but I’ve come to realize that resilience often looks like the courage to pivot.

There was a time when I thought I had to choose between my paths hospitality, leadership, and community engagement, but I’ve learned they’re all part of my purpose. Founding The Dowdell Experience while growing Vin Collective required me to release old definitions of success and embrace evolution. What I once viewed as “starting over” was really me stepping into alignment.

Changing your mind doesn’t mean you’re lost; it means you’re learning. The ability to reassess, realign, and reimagine your path is where real growth happens. Every pivot I’ve made, personally and professionally has strengthened my faith, deepened my clarity, and expanded my impact.

Sometimes resilience isn’t about holding on; it’s about having the grace to let go and begin again with wisdom.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One of the biggest lies my industry tells itself is that credentials automatically equal capability. Don’t get me wrong, education is valuable. I’ve pursued my share of certifications and continued learning. But what I’ve discovered through years of service, leadership, and entrepreneurship is that lived experience often teaches what textbooks can’t.

Our industries, whether in hospitality, leadership, or community engagement, can sometimes overlook the people who’ve learned resilience, empathy, and strategy through real-life experiences. Those are the individuals who understand nuance, who’ve been in the trenches, and who lead with heart because they’ve been there.

I believe your lived experience is your résumé. The lessons that can’t be taught, only earned. That’s the foundation of The Dowdell Experience: empowering others to lead, connect, and communicate from who they truly are, not just what’s on paper. Knowledge can inform you, but experience transforms you and transformation is what truly elevates leadership.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
For a long time, I did what I was told to do – what made sense, what was expected, what looked “right” on paper. I followed structure before I followed purpose. But somewhere along the way, I realized that fulfillment doesn’t live in other people’s expectations, it lives in alignment.

The moment I started walking in what I was born to do, not what I was told to do – everything shifted. I stopped chasing titles and started pursuing impact. That’s how The Dowdell Experience was born, from a place of clarity, courage, and conviction that my voice, my experiences, and my story had value.

Now, through both Vin Collective and The Dowdell Experience, I’m living proof that it’s never too late to pivot from obligation to purpose. Doing what you were born to do requires faith but it also brings freedom.
