Rising Stars: Meet Neal Singh of Fort Myers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Neal Singh.

Hi Neal, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was born and raised in Clearwater, FL as a first generation Sikh American. My parents moved from India to the United States (Ohio) in the late 1970’s and then moved to Florida in the early 1980’s. I have 1 older brother and 1 older sister, and I looked up to both of them as I was going through life. My brother was closer to my age than my sister so we overlapped schools growing up and did many things together. My sister was a role model for me growing up, and she ultimately helped me to pursue a career in dentistry. My parents were very supportive of us to pursue higher education, so we were encouraged to apply to college and ultimately apply for professional school. We all went to dental school and I decided to pursue a career in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics. Thanks to my family supporting me throughout the way, I was able to get where I am today.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I feel like there were some struggles along the way. Going through dental school involved a marathon of tests and psychomotor exams, and there were times when I didn’t do well on some of the tests and psychomotor exams and I questioned my ability to perform under pressure and time constraints. But I realized that I needed more time to practice and perfect my craft, so I decided to dedicate extra time in the simulation lab to prepare myself for the upcoming tests and psychomotor exams, and I ultimately passed every test and psychomotor exam to graduate and practice dentistry. Also, having faith in a higher power helped to give me strength, a growth mindset and the ability to not give up when times are tough.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a dentist, and I specialize in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics. I’m known for providing personalized care with honesty, integrity and a commitment to excellence. I’m most proud of achieving board certification with the American Board of Orthodontics in 2023. I believe that my ability to connect with people and make them feel comfortable, happy and welcome sets me apart from others.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
My spiritual growth matters most to me because ultimately we, as humanity and as a part of the greater creation of the universe, are all connected and I want to strengthen my commitment to serving humanity to the best of my ability, treating everyone equally and fairly, and connecting myself to the Oneness that pervades all of the universe so that when it comes time to leave this world, I know that I have lived a fulfilled, meaningful life.
