We recently had the chance to connect with Aileen Bernuy and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Aileen, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
All three are super valuable! But for me it’s got to be integrity.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi there! My name is Aileen, I am a personal trainer, certified Pilates teacher and have recently become a Lagree instructor! I have been in the fitness industry for almost 5 years, and my love for it keeps growing and growing. I really enjoy continuing my education and learning new modalities! My business is Evnia Fitness – Evnia comes from a Greek word that translates to well balanced mind, beautiful thinking and favor. I loved the meaning of this word when it came to fitness. Specifically the well and balanced mind part. It’s important to see movement as a form of self-care, not punishment. A healthy mindset makes all the difference!
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
The part of me that believed I had to constantly work, say yes to everything and prove my worth through over commitment. That version of me helped get me to where I am but its not longer who I need to be. I have released that part with gratitude and choose to protect my time, energy and boundaries with intention and care.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
Growing up, public speaking and being in the spotlight was a huge fear of mine. However, through my work – being on the mic regularly- I’ve gradually built confidence and learned to face that fear head on. While I’ve come a long way, I still sometimes with it, but now see those moments as opportunities to grow rather than setbacks.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
The fitness industry is constantly evolving, which is exciting for growth, but it also means new trends and fads pop up regularly, each claiming to be the ‘next best thing’.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
I’d like to say yes, I don’t live my life for the approval of others and that bleeds into my work and how I run my business.
