We recently had the chance to connect with Keyeshia Watson and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Keyeshia, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
As of right now my latest and greatest venture is being a Music Artist.. I was in the studio for 5 years before I made my debut in February of last year.. It was such a success I ended 2024 with a 2nd single.. I was overjoyed at the positive responses from so many people.. I was never necessarily scared to share this part of my journey. Music is deeply rooted in my DNA.. I just really wanted to take my time to nurture and craft a signature sound.. Timing is everything. And greatness can never be rushed.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hey there, I am Keyeshia Watson, Fashion Designer & Singer.. Originally from Mississippi and proudly based in Tampa, Florida for the past decade. I’m the creative force behind Chic Eccentrics, a brand I’ve passionately built for nearly 9 years. My work blends bold style with unique flair—celebrating individuality and confidence through fashion.
Though my singing debut has just begun in the past year, it’s quickly become a powerful new way for me to express creativity and connect with others. As both a designer and emerging artist, I bring a fresh, authentic rhythm to everything I do—making each piece and performance a true expression of self. I’m excited to continue growing my brand and my music, sharing my passion with the world!
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
The greatest example of hard work that I’ve witnessed, not only during my childhood but throughout my life, would have to be my grandfather. A bona fide cowboy and cattleman, full of true grit, as we say in the South.
He never worked for the money, but out of passion for ranching and farming. He worked so hard for himself and others that he was able to retire from his occupation very early and focus full-time on his farming career, which he thrived in until his passing this summer.
He had many proverbs and quotes that I live by to this day. He would always say, “Find out what you love to do and stick with it!” And his most notorious quote: “IF YOU DON’T WORK, YOU DON’T EAT!”
He set the tone for how I view entrepreneurship. Watching him be his own boss was a clear indication that I, too, could be my own boss.
And here we are!
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
To my teenage self specifically, Live more fully and be open to new experiences. One day every goal and dream you have for yourself will be a reality so continue to dream and daydream about your life later.. The future you want is coming, so enjoy the journey there.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Absolutely, yes. I’m big on authenticity. With me, what you see is what you get. Life’s too short for facades and not living as your true self. Of course, we all have layers. Generally, who we’re talking to or what we’re doing will determine which layers we choose to show. As for me, I only know how to show up as myself.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
Honestly, I believe I’m doing what I was born to do. Since I was a child, I’ve naturally been drawn to music and fashion. These passions have always felt like a part of who I am. I realized that my true fulfillment comes from living a life and career that reflect my authentic self, blending music and fashion in a way that feels natural and meaningful. It’s all about being true to myself and doing what genuinely excites me every day.
