Today we’d like to introduce you to Gary Liu.
Hi Gary, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a private practice psychiatrist who came to Tampa just a few months ago and started EVE Psychiatry and EVE Ketamine. I offer medication management for adults as well as Ketamine IV Therapy for depression, anxiety, OCD, and PTSD. My training includes an MD/PhD combined degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, and then a psychiatry residency at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital System in Philadelphia. My wife is also an MD/PhD and currently a hematopathology attending at Moffitt. Our family includes 2 girls (1 and 3 years old) with a baby boy on the way.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I’ve only started a few months ago, but it’s definitely not smooth. Starting a clinic delivering Ketamine IV Therapy, a private practice, moving to a new city with 2 young kids and my wife who is currently pregnant have all been challenging. Luckily, my family is a great source of support as I continue on this path.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
EVE Psychiatry is a private practice that specializes in psychiatric medication management for adults and Ketamine IV Therapy. As an MD/PhD, I have a background as a physician scientist, which means I have first hand knowledge and experience conducing rigorous scientific research and publishing research findings. At EVE Psychiatry, I deeply value evidence based treatments for all aspects of patient treatment. I also want to expand care to different patients as much as possible, which means applying to be credentialed with many insurance companies. I offer concierge service as each patient can call and message me directly, therefore decreasing barriers for their care. I also coordinate with patient’s therapists and medical providers on a regular basis to ensure their treatment is coordinated. Furthermore, if the patient consents, I often call their family so that their support network remain informed about their care.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I started my MD/PhD wanting to be a surgeon or cardiologist. Psychiatry was the specialty that I least considered. Then, after confronting my own mental health struggles and improving with the help of psychiatry/therapy, I realized the importance and impact of the field. Subsequently, psychiatry and neuroscience research became my passion.
