Today we’d like to introduce you to Katia & Alberto.
Hi Katia & Alberto, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Chef’s Mesa started with a simple act of love. Long before we had a name, we were the ones bringing people together around the table. Whether it was baking for friends, setting up something special for family, or exploring new restaurants just for the experience, food has always been our love language.
Even thinking back to our very first jobs, food was always part of our story. Alberto worked in event catering for a major hotel chain, where he saw how powerful food presentation can be in bringing people together. Katia was a hostess at a popular seafood restaurant, where she learned the art of creating memorable first impressions. Those early experiences became the foundation of everything we do today.
When we started making charcuterie boards for family and friends, it was simply another way to share that love. But soon, we realized something special was happening. Each board became a canvas where our creativity, care, and passion came to life. What started as a small gesture quickly grew into something bigger and that is how Chef’s Mesa was born.
From the shared belief that food is not just something you eat, it is something you experience. Every spread we create is designed to bring people closer, to slow things down, and to make moments feel special. At the heart of it all, our mission remains the same: to craft experiences that make people feel special, celebrated, and connected through the simple joy of good food.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t completely been a smooth road. Nothing about starting and running a business is easy, especially in the food industry. We’ve faced our share of challenges, from customer acquisition and fluctuating food costs to finding the right balance between investing everything back into the business and going slow and steady.
One of the biggest lessons has been learning to give ourselves grace. We both have a natural desire to make everything perfect, making sure every cheese is cut just right and ensuring each salami rose looks identical. But we’ve learned along the way that not everything will go perfectly at every setup, and that’s okay. Each experience is a chance to learn, grow, and get better.
Building Chef’s Mesa has been full of ups and downs, but every challenge has taught us resilience, patience, and the importance of being kind to ourselves along the way. This is just our first business, and we’re grateful for every lesson it brings.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Chef’s Mesa is a boutique charcuterie and catering company that specializes in curated charcuterie boards, grazing tables, workshops and elevated bites for any occasion. What started as a simple way to share love through food has grown into a brand known for transforming gatherings into memorable experiences. Every board, table, and spread we create is crafted with intention, blending creativity and flavor to bring people together.
We’re known for our eye for detail and our ability to make any setup feel effortless yet elevated. Whether it’s a corporate event, wedding, or celebration, we focus on creating food experiences that feel as special as the people they’re made for. We take pride in using fresh, high-quality ingredients to craft spreads that look as beautiful as they taste.
What truly sets us apart is the heart behind our work. Chef’s Mesa isn’t just about food; it’s about connection. We design every experience to encourage people to slow down, savor the moment, and connect with each other. We also take pride in being a Latino-owned business that brings culture and a deep sense of community to everything we do.
We’re most proud of how far we’ve come and what we’ve built along the way. Every spread reflects who we are, partners in life with a shared passion for exploring new experiences through food, turning every creation into art and every moment into an experience.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Finding a mentor or a network can feel intimidating at first, but we’ve learned that it really starts with authenticity. Some of the best relationships we’ve built have come from simply showing up to local events, markets, or small business gatherings and being open to sharing our story. People connect with passion, and when you speak from the heart about what you’re building, the right people naturally gravitate toward you.
Even if you don’t have a formal mentor, it’s so important to find a network and surround yourself with people who will support, encourage, and challenge you. Being part of a community of like-minded entrepreneurs can make a huge difference, helping you learn, grow, and stay inspired along the journey.
