Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like most entrepreneurial journeys, ours has not been without challenges. In the early days of Gabriella Chocolates, the focus was on building trust and standing out in a crowded market where artisan chocolate is both competitive and seasonal. Scaling production while maintaining the handmade quality our customers loved required significant trial, error, and investment.
When we expanded into Cacao Bella™, the challenges became even more complex. We weren’t just making chocolate anymore — we were developing a functional food supplement that had to meet strict FDA dietary supplement regulations. That meant navigating CGMP compliance, sourcing clinically proven branded ingredients like VERISOL® and AstaReal®, and ensuring stability, safety, and consistency in every batch.
We also faced hurdles in educating consumers. Many people are familiar with collagen powders or pills, but the idea of getting skincare and wellness benefits through chocolate required clear storytelling and trust-building. Add to that the logistics of shipping chocolate in Florida’s heat — with insulated packaging, ice packs, and customer care — and we had plenty of obstacles to overcome.
Still, each struggle pushed us to innovate, refine our process, and strengthen our brand. What was your favorite childhood memory?
One of Nancy’s fondest childhood memories was having free rein in the kitchen, experimenting with desserts while her mother — not much of a cook herself — gave her the space to explore.
