Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with AJ Flick’Em

AJ Flick’Em shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

AJ , a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
Integrity is very important. Integrity is the quality of being honest, having strong moral principles and moral uprightness. Having integrity will build trust with others which will lead to loyalty, success and growth and most importantly, a great reputation that no one can take from you.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is AJ Flick’Em. I’m a Photographer specializing in lifestyle and concert photography, BTS Director and occasionally I’m also a videographer when I’m collaborating on a music video. I’ve worked with artists such as Gitt Swift, Montana 700, MosWanted as well as Platinum, Gold and Billboard producers such as Youngin Chriso, Xeno, Scenario Faryoo, DxnteMadeIt and MookGotTheKeysJumpin. I enjoy helping create and capturing moments that will become memories for a lifetime.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Before the world told me who I had to be, I was myself. After the world told me who I had to be, I still remained myself. God created me in a unique way so that I wouldn’t have to be who the world told me who I had to be. Authenticity is key. Authenticity is everything. I refuse to let the world tell me who I should be when majority of people in the world doesn’t even know who they are or who they should be. And I thank God I know who I am which is who He created me to be and for that, I’ll never change who I am to become something I’m not.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear of being judged has held me back the most in life. I used to see how people would judge and treat others for chasing their dreams. For chasing their goals. Once I started to chase my dreams I stared to get judged as well so I stopped until I realized those who were judging me were the same people who weren’t chasing dreams or goals. Then I realized I was being judged by those who were chasing their dreams and goals because I let others get into my head. Then I told myself I would rather be judged for chasing my dreams and goals than judged for not chasing them. So if people were going to talk, why not give them something to talk about? The minute I started to have that mindset, I started to win.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
When you see me in public or online, you’re getting the real version of me. How could God bless me when I’m pretending to be someone I’m not and He knows who He created me to be? Some see me on social media and think my life is perfect but social media is nothing but a highlight reel. I let them know that I’m still human. I still have struggles. I still have times where I battle the spirit of fear. I still battle doubt when it comes to certain situations. Even though they get the real me online they’re also getting the real me in person but in real time.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
When I’m gone, I want people to let others know how I made them feel seen. How I made showed them that they do matter. How I poured into them. How I never overlooked them just because the masses did. I’m here in assignment from God and I will continue to do my assignment until He calls me home.
