Juan Jaramillo shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Juan, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
Many people think pest control means simply “spraying something to kill bugs.” In reality, modern pest management focuses on Integrated Pest Management (IPM) — identifying the pest, understanding its biology and behavior, and using a combination of exclusion, sanitation, habitat modification, and targeted treatments. Chemicals are often a last resort, not the first step.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
At Friendly Pest Solutions, we’re more than just a pest control company — we’re a locally owned and operated team that takes pride in protecting Tampa Bay homes and businesses with care, integrity, and professionalism. With decades of experience in the industry, our mission is simple: to deliver effective, long-lasting solutions while treating every customer like family. Unlike many companies that focus on quick fixes, we take the time to understand your unique situation and build a customized plan that works for your home or business. Our technicians are highly trained problem-solvers who don’t just “spray and go” — they inspect, prevent, and provide solutions that get to the root of the problem. Most importantly, we combine proven pest control methods with a commitment to customer service that puts your peace of mind first.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
Lack of trust and poor communication can really hinder the relationships we build with our customers. We pride ourselves on open and honest communication with our customers.
What’s something you changed your mind about after failing hard?
Before failure: Trusting that putting in long hours automatically leads to results.
After failure: Accepting that strategy, timing, and adaptability matter just as much as effort. Smart work and resilience outweigh sheer grind.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Whose ideas do you rely on most that aren’t your own?
In business especially, customer feedback and experiences shape strategy. Their pain points, questions, and perspectives often steer decisions more than our own initial assumptions.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
Customers would miss the way our team makes them feel like more than just another account. Many pest control companies treat service as a transaction, but our clients value the personal relationships — being remembered by name, listened to, and cared for.
