An Inspired Chat with Jorge Gonzalez of Hillsborough County

Jorge Gonzalez shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Jorge, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
What I’m being called to do now is step into a more visible and proactive role—becoming an independent salesperson. That means making cold calls, approaching people I don’t know, and speaking publicly about the services I offer. These are things I used to avoid because they felt intimidating. But now, I see them as powerful tools to build trust, connect with my community, and grow my business.

I’ve realized that the fear wasn’t about the task itself—it was about stepping outside my comfort zone. Now I’m embracing that discomfort, because it’s where the real growth happens. I’m learning to lead with confidence, communicate with clarity, and show up with purpose, especially when reaching out to seniors and Spanish-speaking audiences who value warmth and authenticity. It’s not just about selling—it’s about serving.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Jorge Gonzalez, an independent insurance agent specializing in life, health, auto, home, and liability coverage. I work with two trusted organizations—Global Insurance & Planning Advisors, where I focus on life and health policies, and Arena Insurance Agency, where I help clients with auto and homeowners insurance.

What makes my work truly special is the people. Every day, I get to connect with individuals from all walks of life—different ages, backgrounds, and cultures—and learn about their stories, their needs, and what matters most to them. It’s not just about selling insurance; it’s about listening, building trust, and helping people protect what they value most.

Right now, I’m focused on expanding my outreach, especially to seniors and Spanish-speaking communities, making sure they feel seen, heard, and supported. Whether it’s through personalized service, bilingual materials, or simply showing up with empathy, I’m committed to making insurance feel more accessible and human.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
A moment that truly reshaped how I see the world was when I realized that the traditional path I was taught to follow—earning a college degree and working for a big corporation—didn’t guarantee the success or stability I had imagined. Growing up, my family and I believed that education and corporate loyalty were the keys to a secure future. But after experiencing multiple layoffs despite hard work and dedication, I began to question that belief.

Reading Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki was a turning point. The book opened my eyes to a different mindset—one that values financial independence, entrepreneurship, and self-reliance. It helped me understand two powerful truths: first, that companies are no longer loyal to employees the way they once were, and second, that real success comes from building something of your own.

That realization pushed me to take control of my future. I chose to become an independent insurance agent, not just to earn a living, but to create impact, build relationships, and serve my community on my own terms. It taught me that success isn’t just about titles or paychecks—it’s about freedom, purpose, and the ability to grow beyond limitations.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There have definitely been moments when I felt like giving up. In fact, the fear of quitting is something that shows up often—especially after a string of rejections from prospects, months with little or no income, or hearing economic news that directly impacts my industry. It’s easy to start questioning everything and wonder if I should go back to the safety of a 9-to-5 job.

But what’s kept me going is a shift in mindset. Reading Rich Dad Poor Dad and listening to stories from people like Elon Musk, Steve Jobs, Jeff Bezos, Michael Jordan, and others reminded me that true success doesn’t happen overnight. It’s not about instant results—it’s about endurance, consistency, and the willingness to keep showing up even when things feel uncertain.

I’ve learned that setbacks are part of the journey, not signs to stop. Every challenge has helped me grow stronger, more focused, and more committed to building something meaningful—not just for myself, but for the people I serve. That’s what keeps me moving forward.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I’m committed to achieving financial stability and long-term success—not just for myself, but for my family and community. It’s not about having a lot of money for the sake of it. It’s about peace of mind: knowing my loved ones are taken care of, that I can enjoy life without stressing over the next bill, and that I have the freedom to travel, give generously, and live fully.

I also believe in lifting others up. Helping family and friends find their own path to success is just as important to me. Whether it’s sharing knowledge, offering support, or simply being a source of encouragement, I want my journey to inspire others to believe in theirs.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Yes—because what I’m building isn’t for applause. It’s for my family’s future and my own peace of mind. Over the years, I’ve learned that you’ll never satisfy everyone. No matter how hard you work or how well you perform, someone will always have something negative to say. That realization freed me. I stopped chasing approval and started focusing on what truly matters: progress, purpose, and personal growth.

I’ve always given my best, even when no one was watching. I work hard to reach my goals, not because I expect praise, but because I believe in the life I’m creating. I welcome constructive advice—especially when it helps me serve others better—but I’ve learned to tune out criticism that’s rooted in judgment or negativity. My energy is too valuable to waste on doubt.

At the end of the day, I measure success by the impact I make and the legacy I leave. If I can look back and say I gave it everything I had, that’s enough.
