We’re looking forward to introducing you to Liz Dimmitt. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Liz , thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
FloridaRAMA of course. It is a 15,000 square foot immersive art experience and indoor attraction in St. Petersburg Florida built during the height of the pandemic. What most people don’t see is the incredible depth of collaboration that went into it. We have partnered with more than 80 artists, most of them local, to bring Florida’s wackiest stories to life through playful art installations. Every inch of the space was handcrafted with love, intention and detail, most of which our guests may never even notice. But it’s there. And it’s what makes FloridaRAMA cooler than a museum, smarter than a theme park and weirder than a carnival.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Liz Dimmitt, CEO of FloridaRAMA, a one of a kind indoor immersive art experience and attraction in St. Petersburg FL. My background is in large scale immersive art installations and experiential projects and I have worked with artists, collectors and institutions around the world. With FloridaRAMA I’ve brought that global experience back to my hometown.
FloridaRAMA is a playful world built in collaboration with over 80 artists to celebrate Florida’s creative chaos—its folklore, natural beauty, eccentric history and local talent. It is designed for all ages and interests, offering a blend of interactive exhibits, rainy day activities and unforgettable art experiences. We believe in art for all, play for all and joy for all. That is the heart of everything we do.
We are also proud to be one of the most unique event venues in Tampa Bay, hosting everything from corporate events and team building retreats to birthday parties and weddings. FloridaRAMA is more than a destination. It is a platform for creativity, connection and community.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
Working with Jeff and Penny Vinik, the Vinik Family Foundation and the Vinik Sports Group has been transformative. They are world class professionals and extraordinary people: generous, strategic and deeply committed to quality and community. I learned that great leadership means hiring the best people, empowering them and always aiming to create meaningful impact. Their approach to public art and culture helped shape my vision for FloridaRAMA as a joyful, accessible, community centered space.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Of course! It was scary and challenging to focus on building an immersive attraction during the pandemic. There was so much uncertainty and risk, especially for something as ambitious and hands-on as FloridaRAMA. But the vision never wavered. We believed that families, artists and communities would need a joyful place to reconnect and play when the time came. That belief kept us going. Creating a family friendly indoor activity in St. Petersburg that celebrates Florida’s creative spirit felt more important than ever. And now seeing people of all ages explore our immersive art experience makes every hard moment worth it.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
That art and culture are for everyone and they should be fun. At FloridaRAMA we believe deeply in accessibility, inclusion and play. Our mission is clear: art for all, play for all, joy for all. That is why we design every immersive room, event and interactive installation to be welcoming to every age and background. And it is why in 2024 we gave away over 18,000 free tickets to public school students and local nonprofits. We are proud to be a top family friendly attraction in St. Petersburg and Tampa Bay but more importantly we are proud to be a place where people feel like they belong.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
That is exactly what happens at FloridaRAMA every day. So much thought, time and care go into the details that most guests will never consciously notice—the detailed underlying narrative, the visual clues, the sound design and the layered meanings. But those details matter. They shape how people feel. We are building wonder not just photo ops. And even if the work behind the scenes goes unrecognized the joy it sparks makes it worth it. That is the FloridaRAMA way.
