DeAnna Curtis-Bowens of Tampa Palms on Life, Lessons & Legacy

DeAnna Curtis-Bowens shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning DeAnna, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 minutes of my day are set apart for fellowship with God—praying, immersing myself in His Word, and quietly listening to His leading.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m DeAnna Curtis-Bowens, though many know me as Ms. Dee—an inspirational speaker, author, coach, and founder of Ms. Dee Speaks. My passion is empowering women to overcome fear, embrace healing, and step boldly into their God-given purpose. Through my books, including The Decree and Godfidence: Faith-Fueled Confidence for Women, as well as YouTube series, devotionals, and coaching programs, I combine biblical truth with practical wisdom to help others live with courage and faith.

What makes my work unique is that it’s deeply personal—I’ve lived the lessons I share. My journey has taken me from places of fear and self-doubt to walking in bold Godfidence, and now I help others do the same. Whether I’m speaking on stage, mentoring one-on-one, or creating faith-based resources, my heart is to see lives transformed by the power of God’s love and truth.

Right now, I’m speaking at events, and producing digital content that equips women to live with unshakable confidence every single day.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
Growing up, I believed I had to work twice as hard to be accepted and that my mistakes defined me. I thought if I wasn’t perfect, I didn’t matter. It took years of prayer, healing, and learning God’s Word to realize that my identity isn’t in my performance—it’s in Christ. Now I walk in the truth that I am loved, valuable, and called, just as I am.

What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
Some of the deepest wounds in my life came from shame, rejection, and the pain of past choices—including moments I thought disqualified me from God’s love and purpose. For years, I carried those wounds in silence, believing they defined me. My healing began when I surrendered them to God, allowed His Word to rewrite my identity, and chose forgiveness—both for others and for myself. Through prayer, faith, and intentionally walking in His truth, those wounds have become testimonies that now help others find hope and freedom.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I’m committed to building Ms. Dee’s Place—a facility for teenage mothers that will serve as a safe haven for healing, growth, and transformation. My vision is to create a nurturing environment where young mothers are equipped with practical tools, spiritual guidance, and a supportive community to help them rise above challenges and build a strong future for themselves and their children. No matter how long it takes, I will see this vision through until it becomes a place where lives and legacies are changed for generations. Currently in the process of applying for the 501c3.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people will say that I loved God deeply, loved people well, and lived my life helping others discover their worth and purpose in Him. That I poured out my time, gifts, and heart to inspire hope, ignite faith, and leave the world a little brighter than I found it. And that my life was proof that God can take a broken story and turn it into a testimony that changes lives
