Story & Lesson Highlights with Kimberly Blackmon of Seminole Heights

Kimberly Blackmon shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Kimberly , so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
I’m most proud of the culture I’ve built behind the scenes — the mentorship, the safe space, the belief that women of color deserve to feel seen, cared for, and represented in beauty and wellness. It’s not just about the treatments we offer; it’s about building confidence and legacy in ways that aren’t always visible on the ‘gram but are deeply felt by every client and every young professional I mentor.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Kimberly Blackmon, an Air Force veteran turned beauty entrepreneur and the owner of Glowmour Beauty Medispa in Tampa. My journey started with my own struggles with adult acne, which inspired me to create a space where people of color feel seen, cared for, and celebrated in skincare and aesthetics. At Glowmour, we specialize in corrective skincare, laser hair removal, and advanced treatments tailored to melanated skin — services that are often overlooked in the beauty industry. What makes us unique isn’t just the services we provide, but the community we’ve built: a place where luxury meets inclusivity, and where confidence is restored one client at a time. Right now, I’m focused on expanding our injectables and laser services, while also mentoring the next generation of beauty professionals. Glowmour is more than a spa — it’s my mission, my passion, and my legacy.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
Division comes when people forget they share common ground. Hardships, competition, or even silence can break bonds. But resilience and vulnerability rebuild them — when we share our struggles, our healing, or even our joy, we realize we’re more alike than we thought. That’s why I believe in community care as much as self-care.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There was a time after my divorce when I almost gave up. The life I thought I was building had crumbled, and I couldn’t see a way forward. I had to take time to heal, to rediscover who I was outside of that relationship, and to reimagine what my future could look like. That season taught me resilience, and it became the foundation I stood on when I eventually launched Glowmour. My business is proof that even after the darkest moments, new purpose can be born.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One of the biggest lies the beauty industry tells itself is that treatments are ‘one size fits all.’ For too long, people of color have been left out of research, training, and marketing — especially in areas like laser hair removal and advanced skincare. The truth is, melanated skin has unique needs, and when the industry ignores that, it causes harm. At Glowmour, we prove every day that luxury beauty and inclusivity can — and must — coexist.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Absolutely. If I only worked for praise, I would’ve quit a long time ago. Running a business, rebuilding my life, and pushing through setbacks taught me that the value isn’t in recognition, it’s in showing up and giving your best regardless. I’d rather leave behind a legacy of impact than a trail of compliments.
