Sam, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
I lose track of time on a rainy day, working on a customer’s smoking, vaping, or dabbing device. I don’t keep track of the time because I am totally focused on the piece in my hands. The sound of the rain helps keep me in the “zone”. Nothing is more satisfying than returning a dirty smoking device to like new condition.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Bowl N Bong is a smoking, vaping and dabbing device cleaning service. We serve the Tampa Bay area and are located in Downtown St. Pete, FL. We have been in business for 5 years and are still growing to better meet the needs of the community.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
When I was young, I thought you could write a check and didn’t have to pay. I thought you could write a check and just walk away with your purchase. I was probably 5 before I realized you had to have a bank account tied to checks. You can imagine my disappointment in this policy development.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Bowl N Bong is such a specialized business, that adoption of my services has been slow. I have operated at a loss since opening. I have thought about closing Bowl N Bong a few times on the advice of my mentors. However, I have decided that my love of cleaning dirty pipes supersedes my need for profit. I have watched my competition slowly disappear due to the lack of profit in this industry. But, I will continue to operate Bowl N Bong and I believe it will become successful because I offer a 5 Star service for an affordable price.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Whose ideas do you rely on most that aren’t your own?
Aristotle inspired me when I learned that he said, “Excellence is not an act, but a habit.” I am a perfectionist and I strive for excellence in everything I do. In the course of business with Bowl N Bong, I will only accept perfection. If I let one piece slide through my cleaning process and I don’t give it the special attention each piece deserves, then I break my habit. It would be easy, but easy is not what we do at Bowl N Bong.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most a peace when I am floating in the water with SCUBA gear on.
