Kristen Bivona shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Good morning Kristen, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What’s the most surprising thing you’ve learned about your customers?
I think one of them most surprising and amazing things about clients that I work with on the daily basis is.. How much people still want the personal touch when they are a consumer or looking for guidance from another professional. So many things are automated and don’t have the personal interaction anymore that I think people really engage, especially in real estate when they’re feeling like somebody has their back somebody’s guiding them through a very important process, someone they can rely on and ask questions, gain knowledge and make the process seamless and as stress-free as possible. People always say that I am easy to talk to and they trust me. I don’t believe that trait is learned. I think it’s kind of an aura you give off.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child, I was very shy and somewhat withdrawn from other children. My parents divorced when I was two years old and me and my brother who is 13 months older than me were raised by our amazing grandparents. I’ve read the children who come from a stressful family life. Don’t usually fight with one another like the typical children will do that other sibling is their lifeline and security and naturally treat each other kindly without conflict… Kind of a crazy concept but as an adult, I consider myself kind of a passive aggressive person. I easily engage with others, I’m very confident and always present the best version of myself. I don’t necessarily worry about what other people think as long as I know in my heart that I am being kind, caring, self aware and do my best to demonstrate professionalism…always remembering people work with people they trust.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Dear younger self:
You are worthy of love, both giving and receiving. Have the confidence to be the best you can be and show the world you are strong, kind and deserving of everything you desire. Don’t allow the negative things that have occurred so far in your life to define you or stop you from being happy. Don’t settle for anything less than the best. Allow people to care for you and don’t shy away from all of the goodness in this world. You are going to be strong and independent. Find a balance that allows you to build alliances and that will bring you security and trust in others.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
The biggest misconceptions about the real estate industry is we are all out there dressed in designer clothing, driving fancy cars and taking the world by storm. This is the hardest career I have ever had… I’ve always worked really hard in my life to be successful and to give my daughters everything they needed. To be a successful Realtor, you are on call like a physician without the salary. It’s a very reactive job. You have to be well educated and embrace a very chaotic schedule. I work for free many days out of the month, spending money on home tours, required organizations, continued education, fuel, marketing and a whole lot of time in the field and in my office researching, planning and building my pipeline. Always showing property to people who may never transact. Getting up every day and giving 100% to strangers, referrals, family and friends, clients that trust you that you’ve worked with in the past. It’s a disciplined work cycle and can be a very rewarding career, You’re helping people make one of the most important decisions of their life. You really have to love the industry to be a successful realtor for any length of time..
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When do you feel most at peace?
Today what brings me the most peace is not what it was 10 years ago or even 5 years ago..Today. peace is spending quality time at home cooking, relaxing and providing myself with much needed self care. I do enjoy a great restaurant out with a good friend. Paddle boarding on calm water, walking the beach at night or early morning. As I get older I am okay being alone and enjoying restful moments and spontaneous outings as I love to be outdoors. I am very content taking time to find peaceful moments. The world moves at a fast pace and I am purposefully taking time to recharge and reflect.
