Kaitlin Brock shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Good morning Kaitlin, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
Unapologetically be myself. In previous relationships, both professional and personal, I have had a tendency to try and make myself smaller or more “normal” to appease. Over the past few years, I’ve been embracing my inner self more openly and not compromising my desires and happiness.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Kaitlin Brock — a tattoo artist based in beautiful St. Pete, Florida. I’m passionate about turning ideas into art and creating pieces that people can carry with them forever. Whether I’m bringing a client’s vision to life or crafting a design of my own, I pour my heart into every tattoo I create.
You can usually find me tattooing at Electric Gold on Park, or at home relaxing with my dogs. What I love most about my work is helping people feel more like themselves through their tattoos. I truly believe everyone deserves to feel comfortable and confident in their own skin, and I’m grateful to play a small part in that journey.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
Actually, it was something that happened about a year ago. A documentary came out about a “school” I was sent to as a teenager. (The Program: cons cults and kidnapping) It was validating that it was a really bad place and I wasn’t crazy. It has totally changed how I view what I’ve been through, and has highlighted the trauma of it that I carry with me. It’s like suddenly being aware of the suitcases I’ve been subconsciously lugging around daily for 20 years. Slowly unpacking and assessing and letting go.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
The only thing that matters is just following your heart, and eventually you’ll finally get it right.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What do you believe is true but cannot prove?
Ghosts! I whole heartedly believe ghosts exist but I can’t prove it. My mom’s house is definitely haunted but I just sound crazy.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Are you tap dancing to work? Have you been that level of excited at any point in your career? If so, please tell us about those days.
I am currently tap dancing to work! I absolutely love what I do, who I get to work with (coworkers and clients), and I’ve recently landed in a really cool new shop. My last shop was me and two of my favorite people, but due to things beyond our control, we had to close. This new chapter, though different, is definitely still wonderful. I thoroughly blessed to go to work excited every day.
