Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Kenneth GITA Taylor of Brandon

Kenneth GITA Taylor shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Kenneth GITA, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 minutes of my day are dedicated to centering myself and setting clear intentions. I begin with meditation and prayer, reflecting on what I’m grateful for and preparing my mind for the day ahead. This spiritual foundation is essential to everything I do as a father, husband, educator, and financial advisor.

Next, I work on my Power 10 List—the ten most important action items I want to accomplish that day. This practice helps me stay focused on high-impact activities rather than getting caught up in the urgent but less important tasks that can easily consume a day.

This morning routine isn’t just about productivity; it’s about approaching each day with purpose and gratitude. Whether I’m teaching at HCC, working with clients at WealthWave and 100 Money Solutions, or spending time with my family, starting with intention makes all the difference in how I show up for the people who depend on me.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Ken Taylor, and my mission is simple: making money make sense for everyone I serve. As a University of South Florida graduate, financial educator, tax advisor, and professor at Hillsborough Community College, I’ve built my career around demystifying personal finance and helping people achieve true financial freedom.

Through my companies, 100 Money Solutions and my work with WealthWave, I specialize in serving three key communities that are often underserved in the financial space: government employees navigating complex retirement benefits, healthcare professionals managing multi-state tax challenges, and business owners seeking clarity in their financial operations.

What makes my approach unique is my commitment to education over sales. Whether I’m teaching college students about financial literacy or helping a travel nurse understand tax implications across multiple states, I believe that informed clients make the best financial decisions. My tagline—”Every financial journey needs its own solution”—reflects my belief that there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to financial success.

Beyond the professional realm, I’m a devoted husband and father who understands the real-world pressures of balancing family responsibilities with building wealth. This personal perspective drives everything I do, from creating my “60-Second Financial Insights” video series to developing comprehensive programs like our Business Financial Clarity Program.

My goal isn’t just to manage money—it’s to transform how people think about and interact with their finances, one conversation at a time.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
The moment that truly shaped my worldview came when my mother asked me to review her retirement and financial situation. As someone who had always been interested in finance, I thoroughly analyzed her benefits, retirement planning, and overall financial picture to ensure she was getting the best possible outcome. It was not just about the numbers. It was about making sure the woman who raised me would have the security and peace of mind she deserved.

After successfully helping her optimize her financial strategy, something unexpected happened. Word began to spread. Friends, neighbors, and colleagues started reaching out, asking if I could help them understand their own financial situations. What started as a son’s desire to take care of his mother gradually evolved into a calling to serve others facing similar challenges.

That experience taught me two fundamental truths that guide everything I do today: first, that financial literacy is not just about money. It is about dignity, security, and the ability to live life on your own terms. Second, when you genuinely help one person, that act of service has a ripple effect that extends far beyond what you can imagine.

A few years later, I’m honored to serve not just my mother, but hundreds of families across Florida and up the East Coast. Every client I work with carries a piece of that original motivation—the desire to ensure that people have the knowledge and strategies they need to secure their financial future with confidence and peace of mind.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self: “Trust the process and be patient with your journey. Every challenge you face is building the foundation for who you are meant to become.”

I would also remind my younger self to celebrate the small wins along the way. Building a meaningful career and life is not about rushing to some finish line. It is about showing up consistently, learning continuously, and staying committed to serving others well.

The path may not always be clear, but if you stay focused on adding value to people’s lives and remain open to learning, you will end up exactly where you need to be.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
The biggest lie our industry tells itself is that financial services are too complex for the average person to understand. This creates an unnecessary barrier that keeps people from taking control of their financial future. The truth is, most financial concepts can be explained in simple, clear language that anyone can grasp. When we make things unnecessarily complicated, we are not protecting people. We are excluding them.
The second major lie is that wealth building is only for people who already have money. This misconception has kept entire communities from accessing the tools and strategies they need to build generational wealth. Every person, regardless of their starting point, deserves access to quality financial education and guidance. My mission is to break down these barriers and prove that with the right knowledge and support, anyone can achieve financial success.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace during my morning meditation and prayer time. Those quiet moments before the day begins allow me to center myself, reflect on what I am grateful for, and set clear intentions for how I want to serve others. It is in that stillness that I connect with my purpose and remember why I do this work.
