We’re looking forward to introducing you to Jay Dhahan. Check out our conversation below.
Good morning Jay, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Yes, actually, one of my proudest recent moments was marrying my beautiful wife. That day wasn’t just a celebration of love; it was a reminder of why I do what I do. Business, capital, wealth, all of it means very little if you don’t have someone to share the journey with. Standing beside her, I felt proud not just of the man I’ve become, but of the partnership we’re building for the future.
And of course, marriage comes with plenty of laughter too. From the small inside jokes no one else would get, to the moments of chaos that only make the day more memorable, it reminded me that joy isn’t found in perfection, but in presence.
In business, I’m always preparing for the next deal, the next milestone, the next opportunity to create impact. But this moment grounded me. It showed me that success isn’t just about scaling companies or raising capital; it’s about building a life rich with love, laughter, and legacy.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Jay Dhahan. I’m an entrepreneur, real estate developer, and investor but more importantly, I see myself as a builder of people and legacies. Over the past decade, I’ve managed and scaled an eight-figure portfolio in commercial real estate across Canada, and now I’m expanding into the U.S. to originate and structure capital on projects ranging from multi-family housing to aerospace and government contracts.
What makes my work unique isn’t just the numbers or the deals, it’s the engine behind it. Real estate, capital markets, and direct lending are my vehicles, but my purpose is much greater: to feed children, educate the next generation, and collaborate with today’s leaders to create a better tomorrow. I believe money is only powerful when it’s in motion, when it’s deployed to solve real problems and to leave a legacy of impact.
Through my brands NextGen Wealthy, NextGen Properties, and NextGen Collective; I’m not only building profitable ventures, I’m building ecosystems where capital, education, and leadership converge. Our mission is to empower entrepreneurs and investors to create generational wealth, while redirecting resources to causes that matter most.
At the core of my story is this: I’ve experienced both the grind of building from nothing and the privilege of connecting with some of the world’s most influential leaders. That dual perspective fuels my work today. I’m obsessed with helping people unlock their potential, secure the funding they need, and step into a bigger game…not just for themselves, but for the generations that follow.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
What breaks the bonds between people isn’t usually one big betrayal, it’s the slow erosion of trust. It’s when we stop listening, when ego drowns out empathy, when fear replaces honesty. Distance grows when pride takes priority over truth, when judgment replaces curiosity, and when we forget that every relationship, whether business, family, or brotherhood runs on respect as its currency.
What restores those bonds is both simple but not easy: humility and intention. It takes the courage to own your part, the willingness to listen without defending, and the discipline to show up consistently even when it’s uncomfortable.
Forgiveness doesn’t erase the past, but it creates a pathway for the future.
I believe the strongest bonds are rebuilt not through words alone but through aligned action. When two people or entire communities, can recommit to a shared vision greater than themselves, trust begins to flow again. And, that’s where real power lies: in moving beyond “me versus you” into “us for something bigger.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I’d tell my younger self: “You don’t need to prove your worth…just live it.”
When I was younger, I carried the weight of trying to be perfect, to be seen, to get it all right. But the truth is, your value isn’t earned by hustle or approval, it’s already within you. The money, the recognition, the wins… they come and go. What matters is knowing who you are when all of that is stripped away.
I’d remind him that mistakes are not failures, they’re feedback. That the setbacks you fear will actually shape the character you’ll one day rely on. And that love; real love, for yourself and for others isn’t something you chase, it’s something you embody.
Most of all, I’d tell him this: “Relax. You’re already enough. Play the long game. What you’re building isn’t just for you, it’s for the generations you’ll never meet.”
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What important truth do very few people agree with you on?
An important truth I hold, one that very few people fully agree with, is that money itself doesn’t matter.
Most people chase it, worship it, or fear it. They build their entire lives around the pursuit of more. But I see money differently: it’s just an engine, a tool, a flow of energy. By itself, it’s meaningless. What gives money value is where it goes and who it serves.
I’ve sat at tables with people worth hundreds of millions who were miserable, and I’ve stood with kids in underfunded schools whose joy was richer than any balance sheet. That contrast taught me something: wealth without purpose is poverty in disguise.
The unpopular truth is this, if you’re building wealth just for yourself, you’re already broke. Real prosperity is measured by the lives you impact, the opportunities you create, and the legacy you leave behind. That’s why my mission is bigger than deals or development. My engine is real estate and capital markets, yes. But, my purpose is to feed children, educate youth, and partner with leaders to make a better tomorrow.
That truth unsettles people who are still chasing numbers. But once you feel it, you can’t unsee it.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. If you laid down your name, role, and possessions—what would remain?
Yes, I would. Because if you strip away my name, my title, my possessions, what remains is the most valuable asset I’ve ever owned: My mind. As long as I still have the ability to think, to create, to adapt, and to connect, I can rebuild everything that was taken.
I believe true wealth isn’t in what you hold, it’s in what you know, how you think, and who you become through the process. The world can take away material things, but it can’t take away your ability to solve problems, to envision new possibilities, and to influence people toward a greater future.
That’s why I never fear starting over. My brain, my perspective, and my resilience are worth more than any deal, any building, or any title. Those are just byproducts of the engine. The essence of who I am, the mindset I’ve forged, will always be enough to create again, and again, and again.
