Maryn Alyse shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Maryn, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
For me, the most important quality is energy. I believe that bringing positive, vibrant energy into any environment not only makes interactions more enjoyable, but also helps motivate and uplift the people around you. While intelligence and integrity are crucial, without energy, it’s hard to apply those traits effectively day to day. I always make a conscious effort to bring energy into everything I do- especially when i’m on stage.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Maryn Alyse. I’m a 17-year-old singer-songwriter based in Tampa, Florida. Guitar is my main instrument, but I also play bass, drums, ukulele, piano, and banjo. I’m the lead singer and rhythm guitarist of the Maryn Alyse Band—an indie rock/jam group known for blending genres and experimenting with different sounds in both our original music and our covers. Right now, we’re working on our second EP, which will have five songs, and we’re also focusing on booking more live shows around the Tampa area.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Before I got into music, I was pretty quiet and unsure of myself on stage. I used to get really nervous during small performances because I didn’t know how to carry myself or connect with the crowd. Over time, as I started getting more involved in the Tampa music scene and performing more often, I gained confidence. That’s when I felt comfortable being myself on stage—especially showing my more laid-back and goofy side.
What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
These weren’t necessarily big, life-changing events—just small moments that had a real impact on me at the time. Throughout middle and high school, I experienced a lot of heartbreak, both with friends and relationships. It really hurt when people went out of their way to bring me down, but over time I learned that some people are meant to leave your life to help you grow. Songwriting became my way of processing all of that—it’s how I heal, and how I feel most comfortable expressing myself.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One of the biggest lies in the music industry is the idea that if you say yes to everything and constantly hustle—no matter the cost—you’ll eventually make it. I don’t believe that’s true. Not every opportunity is a good one, and forcing things can sometimes do more harm than good. Real growth happens when you stay true to yourself, take care of your well-being, and allow yourself the space to evolve as an artist and a person. That said, nothing just falls into your lap—you have to put in the work. Success doesn’t come from waiting around or relying on luck. It comes from showing up consistently, setting real goals, supporting others, and being open to growth and change along the way. Most importantly, you have to make sure you’re working toward something meaningful—not just chasing fame for the sake of being ‘big.’
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What will you regret not doing?
What I’ll regret not doing is fully putting in the effort to grow as an artist and share my music with people. It’s not about chasing fame or competing with others, but about following my passion and enjoying the journey. I want to look back and know I gave it my all, tried new things, and didn’t hold back because I was afraid. I’m already happy with where I am, but I’ll regret not pushing myself to keep creating, learning, and having fun along the way.
